Ena stared at her ceiling, squinting to find patterns.
Everywhere she went, she saw their face.
Mizuki's laughing expression. Sometimes teasing, sometimes earnest.
To Ena, Mizuki was beautiful. The curve of their lashes, their delicate features, their enthusiastic smile...The way their hair sprung out behind them, liberated, unchained.
Why...?
Why did Ena feel this way? Why was it always Mizuki? When she wanted to talk to someone, Mizuki was the first person that popped into her mind. When she wanted to go somewhere, Mizuki was always someone she wanted to invite.
It was like her mind had been plagued by the constant thought of Mizuki.
Uncomfortable, Ena sprawled out onto her bed, stretching out her limbs restlessly.
She hadn't always reacted like this to Mizuki. Perhaps they were just really good friends...!
Good friends. Of course. that was all it was. It had to be.
Ena chewed at her lip, heavily in denial.
She didn't have feelings for Mizuki. That would be ridiculous..!
"Mizuki..." Ena murmured, her thoughts a bitter whirlwind as her friend's face materialized into her thoughts once more.
"Enanan~! What's up?" Mizuki's words echoed through Ena's mind. Their carefree, energetic voice, that hid a much softer side, something Ena had only been exposed to slightly.
Ena groaned something out loud, turning over, burying her reddening face into her pillow. It was warm, sweaty... Ena wasn't so sure of what she was feeling. It was an intense feeling, like longing, like desire...
Her dark hair clouded her vision, as Ena shut her eyes, being consumed by darkness.
Mizuki.
Mizuki hadn't always been Ena's closest friend.
In fact, at first, Ena had been wary of their very existence.
The way they were so cheerful and teasing, the way they wore that happy facade...
Ena hadn't been very trusting.
But now, Ena would trust Mizuki with her life.
Ena's brother, Akito, would always make fun of her for it.
"Man, you're always talking about that Mizuki. Why don't you two just kiss already?" He'd note dryly, raising an eyebrow at Ena's gushing and exclamations.
Ena would just whack him on the back of his head, flustered.
Kissing Mizuki was out of the question...!
Ena sighed, long and shakily. Obviously, there was something about Mizuki that just caught Ena off guard. Mizuki was like the sun, radiant and bright. Hypnotizing, always leading Ena to take a step forward.
Ena was so grounded, so factual. Her insecurities ate at her skin, forcing her to be someone she wasn't.
But when Mizuki came along, it was like all that changed. Mizuki seemed to accept all of Ena's flaws and obscurities, embracing every single oddity Ena had to offer.
To Ena... that was truly beautiful.
It made her feel as fuzzy inside. A warm, bright feeling, spreading all over her body.
It made her happy.
Mizuki made Ena happy.
And... it made sense.
