Sweet smells hit me in the face as soon as I opened the door. My mouth watered instantly. If I was a dog, my slobber would be dripping on the floor. My eyes flickered across the display case of delicious looking treats until a voice called out my name.

'Quinton!'

I met the happy eyes of Marianne. Curiously, her cheeks turned rosy around her full smile. 'It has been a while. I thought you were avoiding me.. us.'

'Ha.. Er.. No,' I replied, blushing at the memory of being manhandled by a certain demon. 'Just occupied with.. ehrm.. things.'

'Oh,' she said, the tone soft as she nodded. 'I didn't see a mobile order for you, like normal.'

'Ah.. I haven't placed one. Do you have any recommendations?'

Her eyes lit up and her smile returned. Looking at her now, I never noticed how pretty her teeth were before. She also had a cute dimple in her left cheek. Wouldn't be so cute if Mooncake had dimples, too? I tried to remember if I saw them on any of that person's family, but no memories surfaced.

'Sure!'

Marianne joined me at one of the corner tables and watched as I sampled the mini plates that she placed between us. Several of her coworkers kept looking in our direction, but she glared once as she sat down with me then ignored them the rest of the time.

'How do you like it?' she asked, holding her breath.

'It doesn't make me want to vomit,' I answered honestly and was happy that Mooncake settled on something. Chinese and sweets - heavens, this kid.

'Huh? Oh, that's great,' she uttered softly. 'There is something I wanted to talk to you about.'

I stared at her over a piece of whipped cream covered waffle. Her face flushed a deeper red than the nail polish on her fingers. My eyes widened as she looked down. I thought she was going to pop a vein with all the blood moving to her face.

'I.. I..' she whispered and fumbled with her tan apron. 'I.. had given you my number. Why didn't you call?'

I choked mid-swallow, getting the bite back in my mouth, and I blinked several times like that was going to help me process what she had said. 'Uhh.. Er.. When?'

I swallowed the bite down, watching the sadness creep into her face as she met my eyes. 'The last time you were here. I wro.. wrote it on a napkin.. '

All the color drained from my face. She had been waiting all that time.. 'I am very sorry, Marianne. I didn't even notice.'

Her eyes widened, and she gave me a weak smile. 'I knew it was a stupid idea. But I thought you were very cute and..'

I didn't know what her status was, but it seemed not to be an omega. Not that only one status was meant for specifically one kind. There were several couples of omegas, betas, and alphas making it work. It was just who you were attracted to. I wasn't attracted to her.. that way. There was nothing wrong with her appearance and her demeanor was calming, but I didn't want to experience sex with her or that sort of intimacy with her.

'I like you,' she muttered finally. Her blush migrated completely under the collar of her shirt.

'Oh.' I sat there in complete shock. Never in my life would I have thought that someone would have liked me without any sort of motive or in the daylight.

Her eyes looked very wet, and I saw she was going to cry. I reached across the table, encircling my hand around her forearm in a comforting gesture. 'I'm very, very sorry, Marianne that I never noticed your feelings.'
