I stormed out of the homestead to go think. Instead, I ended up talking with Zac. After a while, our conversation died out, and I walked towards the Homestead to see if I could find Gally or Newt. I heard screaming from a closed door I hadn't been through before. I opened it, but nobody inside noticed. It was the council, and Thomas. I didn't understand anything that anyone was saying, I was still a little dazed. Suddenly everybody started yelling at Gally. Now, earlier this would have made me happy. But now that I understood him more, I was mad.
"Hey!" I screamed as I walked into the room completely. "Stop yelling at him." I said much more quietly.
"What in bloody hell are you talking about, you starry-eyed shank? You're delirious, you shouldn't be here anyways." Newt said, with quite a tone, I might add.
"Well, maybe you should lock the door. Or make a lock. I'm not delirious, I'm just standing up. Sure, Gally might have a bit of a strong front, and opinion, and confrontation style, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have a heart. He's honest about what he thinks. He's quite frank, and a good council member because of it. So lay off for once, okay?"
"Thank you, only Decent Human Being in the Glade!" Gally said while walking over.
"Who said anything about human?" Thomas spat at me. "She's just a no-good, rotten, mean, stupid, rule breaking little girl! She ran into the maze, almost got me killed, beat up Gally, and she's so mean to her sister! Gally, you heard her!" Thomas yelled. My eyes filled with tears. I backed up. Gally looked at me and took a step towards Thomas.
"Maybe you should think about yourself, Thomas. You're a hypocrite. At least she's nice. You're just a big, stuck up, sister stealing, rule-breaking bully." Gally said. By this time he was up in Thomas's face. I finally couldn't take it anymore. I ran out of the room, tears streaming down my face. I ran outside the Homestead. I ran into Teresa. I looked at her, then I shook my head and kept running. I hated her! I saw somewhere to go. A tree, a tall one. I climbed up like a monkey and sat in the highest branch, above the rest of them. I could see the sky. It was calming. I heard somebody climbing up. I looked down and I saw Thomas.
"I swear to God, Thomas, I will shove you out of this tree if you come any closer."
He climbed down. Gally climbed up.
"Thanks for standing up for me back there, Kassy. I know I haven't been the nicest to you. But you're different. Your not just some ordinary shank. You're extraordinary, like a, like a shooting star." He said
I smiled. "Thanks. I wish everybody would calm down. I mean-my god, really?" I said as I looked down and saw the entire Glade standing at the base of the tree. "Ugh. I'll go down. You follow me, kay?" He nodded. I swung down just as easily as before. Gally climbed down quickly, but cautiously. I looked at everybody, and I saw Thomas and Teresa. Together, as usual. I couldn't help it. I started crying. I shoved my way through the crowd to them.
"Really?!" I screamed and threw up my arms. "Really?! Are you kidding me?" I pushed past them and I was out of the crowd. I broke into a sprint. I saw the open door to the Slammer, and I ran in. I closed the door, and I took the key in with me. Ha. Let's see them get inside now. Teresa and, unsurprisingly, Thomas walked in, with Gally on their heels.
"Kassy, we need to talk." Teresa said in an angry voice.
"No, we don't. You care more about some stupid boyfriend then your own sister, who's been in a coma for a week because she didn't go out with somebody. Couldn't you even have bothered to visit?! I don't understand you, Teresa. You blame me for my reaction. My reaction to you and Thomas. To hearing y'all in my head all the time. That's right. I can hear you. And some other shank boy. Something like Arin. I don't know. It's pretty annoying, actually. What did you think was going to happen? That I would be perfectly fine with my sister abandoning me? No. Just, no." I practically screamed at her. I turned away. I didn't want her to see me cry. Not now.
"Listen up you slinthead-" Thomas said before Gally grabbed his shoulder and yanked him back.
"Be quiet. Not everything's about you, Thomas. Just leave her alone" Gally said in a sincere tone. More people walked in. Newt, Alby, Minho, Zac, Clint, Claire, and Chuck. Suddenly it was very loud.
"Look, I'm pretty upset, so just kind of shut up, okay?" I said while wiping my tears. People quieted down. Alby came over.
"Open up. Now, or else I'll rip it open, no matter how long it takes me."
"No." I said with a firm tone. As promised, he started trying to rip it open. Gally pulled him off, and Zac stood in front of the door.
"Leave her alone. It's a girl thing, she just has to be alone sometimes." Zac said. Everybody cleared out. I sat there and thought for about fifteen minutes. I came out of the slammer. Something didn't feel right. I looked around, and saw people filing into the homestead. I looked up. The sky was all weird and twilight like. Then I noticed something horrifying. The Doors hadn't closed. I ran into the Homestead. I ran up to Newt, who assigned me a room, and we all got ready for the night.
