 Chapter Eight

Its where the furry weird looking demons hide.

I whirled around and saw something that looked like a baby's drawing. It was like a weird vampire with no body but with wings one the end of it. IT had black oily hair and her eyes glowed a dangerous scarlet. She also had fangs, ready to suck blood if she really was a vampire. and what was with her clawed feet.

"What? Who?!?"

The Bat thing let out a chuckle, (LiKE tHe SmeEL oF  My FeAr?) "I'm the bat queen, the protector of palisman."

I stared blankly at her. a queen of bats? She's gotta be joking, and what is a palisman? Is she a palisman? Is it a made up word? Do they all look like her? DO BATS LOOK LIKE THAT?

She let out a hum, "Come with me, child" turning around and she started doing a strange little waddle. Like a penguin.

"I don't know you," I said stubbornly, my feet firmly planted in their place.

She looked at me with a smile, "Well that makes two of us, dear."

I blinked confused, why was she helping me if she didn't know me.

"You're a little witch all alone so come along dear," Something in her voice sounded sad. I didn't know why but my legs moved one leg after the other.

"What's a palisman?" I asked after a while of walking. It was a slow walking because of her waddle.

"It's a witch's loyal companion." She explained.

"Okay. '' I said a million questions rushing around like a tornado in my head, "What the difference between a normal animal and a palisman?"

This caused the so-called 'bat queen' to laugh. I never want her to do that again. It made the trees quiver with terror. It was like a dog's growl with a cat's high pitched meow. You can't even hear till you hear it, and it's so bad I wouldn't wish it one my own enemy.

"A palisman is made by a witch's crafty hand and can turn into its staff. It lives longer than the witch it serves. But some of the palisman never forget the witch that carved them from palistorm wood."

"Oh," She said with a chuckle, "take this little bird for explain!" She brought her clawed wing to a branch and a Little red cardinal hoped down, "His witch died hundreds of years ago, but he is still loyal to that witch."

The little red bird had a scar over one eye but the other one glowed with bright gold. He chirped happily at the bat queen.

"He says you look like him," She told me fondly.

That creepy man, I thought, why do I look like someone who died hundreds of years ago.

The small palisman looked at me with a happy little look and hoped to land towards me.

I took a step back in alarm. I glanced back at the Bat queen, "What does he want?"

"Ask for yourself," she answered cursorily.

"What? I can't talk to birds!" I said.

"Palisman," she corrected.

"WHatEvER!" I responded by throwing my hands in the air, "He looks like a bird, he talks like a bird, he walks like a bird!"

The cardinal chirped at the bat queen, and flapped his wings as he bobbed his head. VeRy bird like if you ask me.

The bat queen let out a sigh, "His name is Flapjack," she said, guesting to the bird that had puffed his chest out proudly. She turned to me, "He wants to know yours."

"What?" I said. I still couldn't get over that he was named after a pancake!

"Because he doesn't know it." She said rolling her eyes, "It's like when you exchange a scroll number you want the other's in return."

"What's a scroll number?" I said I was completely confused, "Is it like a phone number? Or is it a magical book?"

She blinked at me for a little while. She turned to face father in the woods, then muttered, "I'm too old for this."

"Is it like a phone?" I repeated. A picture of a box filled with light clicking in the darkness of my hollow brain. I had the faint idea that I would stay up late on the phone or scroll. Whatever you call it.

"Is that what your young folk call scrolls?" She said with a scoff. I get the feeling she wasn't talking to me. She shrugged to herself and turned back to me and said, "Yes."

I personally think she was rethinking her life choices.

I looked at Flapjack, and bit my lip hard. I don't know them, I thought to myself, and another voice father in my head but it still was mine answered, you don't know anyone here you have to trust someone someday. The voice was different somehow more snotty and bitter.

I looked back at the bat queen then at the bird again.

"My name is Hunter," I said.

As soon as those words came out of my mouth it was like a click in my brain. There was something in there, it was like a confrontation from whatever god or all-powerful being.

I looked at the 'bat queen' and my new palisman... acquaintance and felt the corners of my lips tile upwards. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad.

Hope sparked in my chest. Maybe I can figure out what chemistry there is with me, the human, and the witch.

And maybe the demon, dog, Pokemon, thing.

Things might turn out okay.

I have information I want to give, good news(?) and bad news. Here's the information. I REALLY think the bat queen is a cool underdeveloped character so she's going to have some love in the beginning of the story. (It's going to be a long story.)

Here's the good news, I'm going to TRY and make the chapters longer.

Here's the bad news I'm probably not gonna update for a little while because I have a pack jammed Summer, but even if I'm not updating I'm going to try to write some chapters to get more a head I'm a little behind on my chapters.
