Past the red doors was a small room, with nothing but an elevator. Most of the class was already there, but they were still missing a few

Kyoko silently pulled Quill aside "Being a canary you would know about codes and cyphers, yes?"

"Indeed I do"

"And you saw the dying message?"

"Indeed I did

"Is there a way to decode the numbers she wrote?"

Quill hid his smirk "Are you sure they're numbers?" Kyoko's eyes widened for a brief second as the last piece fell into place. Quill just walked back to the rest of the group

After another minute or so of waiting, Makoto was the last to arrive, and Taka immediately started yelling "You're late, Makoto! We've all been waiting for you!"

"Hmph. I bet y-you were afraid you would be discovered as th-the murderer you are..." Toko accused

"Did you do any investigation?" Quill asked

"W-Well no, b-but-"

he cut her off. "Then don't make baseless accusations."

As everyone stepped into the elevator, it started its descent. Later opening to show a blue courtroom with gold pillars and red curtains across the walls, a ring of 17 stands, and a throne behind them.

"Nyohoho! You've finally arrived!" Monokuma appeared on the throne "What do you think? Doesn't it feel just like a real courtroom? It's like a Hollywood movie set, right!?"

"Not even close. It's total shit." Mondo complained

"Okay, okay, everyone find your assigned seats and sit down! Hurry up now, hurry up!"

The ring of stands made it so everyone could see everyone, making it easy to shift suspicion and tension from one to another. Quill's stand was in between Taka's and what would be Junko's

And so, the first case began. A fight of life and death to determine their fates. A deadly class trial.

🗦All Rise!🗧

Monokuma started "Let's begin with a basic explanation of the class trial! So, your votes will determine the results. If you can figure out 'whodunnit' then only they will receive punishment. But if you pick the wrong one... then I'll punish everyone besides the blackened, and the one that deceived everyone else will graduate!"

"And the killer really is one of us, right?" Makoto asked

"Of course!"

Taka tried to take charge "Okay then...everyone close your eyes, and whoever did it, raise your hand!"

"Don't be a goddamn idiot. Why the hell would they raise their hand?" Mondo jeered

"Before we move on and start the trial, can I ask a question real quick? What's going on with...those pictures?" Kyoko pointed to the pictures hanging at Sayaka's and Junko's stands. Each was a picture of their faces in monochrome, with a bright red X across it

"I'd feel awful if they got left out just because they died. Friendship penetrates even death's barrier!" Monokuma explained

"Friendship...penetrates?" Hifumi...

Ignoring him, Quill asked his own question "And what about the empty seat? There were only sixteen of us, so why seventeen seats?"

"Oh, no reason. It's just that out little courtroom here can technically fit up to sixteen people. Okay, that about does it for the preamble. Get ready to get started! First up is the case summary. Now, let the class trial...begin!"
