The rain was hammering on the window of the cottage despite it being July, the English weather never failed to put a dampener on the summer holidays. The small office space that Remus had converted into a little bedroom for Amelie was currently being turned upside down by the girl in question. Books scattered across the floor, empty parchment and quill ink spilled across her makeshift desk.
"Where is it?" She mumbled to herself, groaning as she flicked through another chest full of books, a knock on her door stopped her in motion, her head turning to the open doorframe. Remus gazed around the room and sighed, eyes meeting the young girl who was sheepishly scratching the back of her head, also looking around her room."What on earth are you looking for?" Remus asked, stepping over a pile of empty boxes by the door, picking up one of Amelie's school books.
"Amelie these books are expensive, please treat them better I won't be replacing them every time you break one," Remus scolded her, dusting of the book and placing it on her bed, now standing in the centre of the room, waiting expectantly for her answer."Sorry, I know I should be more careful, a friend asked me if I had read any muggle books and I told him I had quite a collection of them so I'm looking for one specific book that I think he might like, but I can't find it anywhere!" Amelie huffed, getting her wand out from her trouser pocket, quickly pointing around the room, shouting "scourgify!" All the items around her bedroom begin to return to their correct places and within a minute the entire room is clean, even the dust is gone and Remus can't help but chuckle.
"I guess I can't use cleaning your room as a punishment anymore when you're getting so apt with magic," he smiles, Amelie chuckles whilst putting her wand back in her pocket, Remus places his arm around the girls shoulder and guides her out of the room.
"What book is it that you're looking for? It's probably on the bookshelves downstairs rather than up here," Remus looked intently at the girl, it had only been 8 months of not seeing her and yet it seemed as though she had grown a ridiculous amount in that time. "And who's this friend?" Remus had a cheeky smile on his face, laughing slightly at the embarrassment evident on her face."Uncle stop! He's just a friend, he had nobody to be his friend and I was being outcasted by the rest of the slytherins for always being around Fred and George, you know what it's like, it looks bad to mix houses," Amelie almost fell down the bottom two steps as Remus stopped walking, his arm tightening around her shoulders,
"Amelie, if you're going to be friends with someone then you should do so for a good reason, not out of sympathy and certainly not out of fear of what others think," he scolded the girl once again, she nodded her head and jumped the last two steps, looking up at the older man."I swear that isn't why I stayed friends with him, I tried to be friends with him on the first day and he basically told me to get lost, but some of the teachers were acting weird about him so my curiosity was peaked, it turns out that he was also curious about me because he figured out that Sirius is my dad, and he didn't judge me at all! He said we could relate to each other and that it would give us common ground not knowing our fathers, he won't tell me much about himself but I know that he is a good guy," Amelie was rambling away as she began making her way towards the bookshelves in the living-room. She was clearly fond of the boy and it clearly meant a lot to her that she become his friend, but Remus couldn't shake the strange feeling he was overcome with at the thought of this wizard boy being carefully watched by the teachers. It was the same feeling he got when he'd found out she was a slytherin, something her Father would be upset about.
Remus was sat reading the daily prophet with his mug of coffee and his breakfast left forgotten when Amelie's owl, Zeke, burst through the window.
"Merlins beard, you scared me, thank you for the letter," Remus chuckled, stroking the birds chest feathers as he unravelled the scroll, recognising the writing on parchment as Amelie's. She had finally sent a letter.
