It wasn't until after her 14th birthday, five months into her 3rd year that she realised Mattheo was unknowingly like his father. His magic was great and he really did excel at it, an insane talent for potions and defence against the dark arts but also for charms class. All the teachers were proud of him and by default, proud of Amelie because he taught her everything he learned. He refused to let his best friend fall lower than him in studies, wanting to be equals which perhaps was one of his traits that couldn't be further from his father.
Mattheo had spent the last two Christmas' with Amelie and also with the Weasleys because that's where Amelie was now spending her Christmas every year along with her uncle Remus. She had found out that he had been contacting the Weasleys because he wanted to know if Mattheo was worth inviting and if their mum would accept it. None of the Weasley children knew the truth of Mattheo's family, that he was the Dark Lords son, but Mr and Mrs Weasley sure knew. In fact, the only reason that Mattheo was allowed to spend Christmas with them was because Mr Weasley worked for the ministry (even if it was one of the more pathetic branches) and swore to keep an eye on the boy.
Mattheo didn't take a particular liking to the younger Weasleys and he especially hated Percy, but he was okay with the twins. The twins had enjoyed pulling pranks on the rest of family along with the two slytherins, much enjoying their cunning ideas which helped the twins to not get caught. In fact they had both began roaming around the forbidden forest with the twins on many occasions, and the twins no longer got caught because of the two younger students always having a wicked idea on how to trick Hagrid or how to make themselves unnoticeable.
Mattheo had grown over the summer holidays, now towering over Amelie and he certainly liked to tease her for it. Along with his physical growth Mattheo had also managed to sneak some information from the ministry about dark magic, having learnt various spells and incantations that were not taught at Hogwarts. Mattheo had insisted that Amelie learn these curses, and very willingly, Amelie learnt them all. Three years ago the girl was scared at the thought of being a slytherin and now, whether by Mattheos poor influence or by her own true nature coming out, she couldn't imagine herself anywhere else.
The two of them practiced their forbidden curses deep within the forbidden forest, seemingly appropriate to the two of them, a forbidden curse for a forbidden place. Whenever they would come under attack they would use many different curses, charms and spells. Fiendfyre was one of the harder ones that Mattheo had perfected, engulfing things in huge flames and quickly stopping them with just as much ease. Amelie had learnt to use Sectumsempra which Mattheo had discovered in one of Snapes books when he had been looking for ingredients for a Bundimun Pomade to tame his rouge hair. Amelie had also used the snake summoning spell several times to try and scare the Weasley twins or distract Hagrid.
The Weasley twins swore secrecy upon seeing the twosome using dark magic, simply asking that the two of them continue to help the brothers with their pranks which they happily did behind the scenes. Neither of them had ever received a telling off for the pranks of the Weasley twins because it was a secret that they helped them. Mattheo thought it stupid at first but quickly enjoyed it when he began using magic to trick people and perhaps if Amelie hadn't seen his kind traits she would thing him evil.
His possessiveness and protectiveness never strayed far, Draco had become a closer friend to Amelie, often studying with her or telling her about his mother and fathers questionable activities, exclaiming his hatred for Potter and the mud-blood Granger. Mattheo preferred Blaise Zabini to Draco and could even tolerate Pansy better than the blonde boy. To him Draco was competition to his and Amelie's friendship and on top of that he didn't trust Draco's father, the man had aided his father in the past and if the rumours of him still being around were to be believed it was only a matter of time.
Another person Mattheo came to hate was Harry Potter, not because he was the reason for his fathers death but because no matter what, the dark lords name seemed to hover around the boy. Mattheo often felt uneasy whenever he was near the Potter boy, choosing to stay as far away as possible. His hatred for the boy only grew when students starting appearing around the school petrified and rumours started spreading about 'the heir of slytherin'. The stupid Potter boy assumed it would be Draco, having not known about Mattheo's father but Mattheo felt a wave of unease creep over him.
"Amelie, what if it's me? I know my father is behind this, I have this unwavering feeling that it's him, I want no part of his plan, the guy is fucking evil and I refuse to be him," Mattheo was nothing short of hysterical after the teachers had began keeping a closer eye on him. The swear words slipping from his mouth weren't unusual in recent months especially hanging around the Weasleys who swore like sailors.
"Mattheo, it's highly possible that they mean for you to be the heir of Slytherin and I agree that it's most likely your father behind this, there have been rumours for a while of his return and Draco suspects his father is involved with him somehow but you mustn't think of yourself like this, you're not him and you're not evil, he can't force you to be someone you're not and he definitely can't force you to join him, I'm on your side, no matter what," Amelie smiled despite the fear she felt in her heart.
When Harry had gone to the chamber of secrets and discovered Tom Riddles secret, he had also put the information together regarding Mattheo. The trio had approached Amelie and Mattheo in the middle of the corridor near Transfiguration and Harry had pointed his finger at the boy.
"You're his son aren't you, you shouldn't be here in this school, you have no right to-"
And before Harry could finish Mattheo had his wand pressed against his throat, a glare so dreadful in his eyes that even Amelie felt a shiver down her spine.
"I have every right and more than you Harry Potter, he's no father of mine, we may be blood relatives but he's nothing to me, if you threaten me again you'll regret it," Mattheo's words were icy cold and everyone had stopped to stare at him and then he was turning to Ron,
"I only tolerate you because Amelie likes you but you'd think that someone who has spent enough time around me outside of this school would know better and educate his owner, I guess you're just as much of a bitch as I always thought," Mattheo snickered as the last sentence fell from his mouth and suddenly Amelie could hear Draco chuckling behind her, she had her arms crossed and was glaring at the younger three.
"Ron, you're dead to me," she was stone cold as the words left her mouth and Mattheo couldn't help but turn around in surprise to look at her, she nodded at him and then turned around and gave Draco a pointed glare which shut him up and had him scurrying alongside her.
