...
We sat down in a cafeteria-like hall. Silence filled the room, we didn't say a thing. Until...
"My goodness..." 8-Ball sighed. "Why the fuck did I sign up for this?" He was visibly exhausted, we all were. Loser rubbed his back gently.
"We didn't know that we will all get dragged into this." I spoke, brushing my hair behind my ear. I was staring at the Monopad, not convinced that this will be my new phone here. Ugh, how could I contact my parents now?
"And we are gonna be here forever!" Stapy yelled loudly. "I can't survive for that long!""Hey, the Monopad has some rules!" Foldy showed her Monopad, with the rules page open. "Maybe we read these in the meantime?"
We followed her suggestion and opened the Monopad, on my screen, there was a notification pop-up on the "Rules" tab.
"It can't be that bad, right?" Pencil scoffed, then frowned. "Holy shit, that's a lot of rules..." To be fair, yes, there rules were too abundant. But my school had more than 20 rules, not counting the dress code."Buut, do we, like, have to read them?" Match groaned, flopping on the table. "I'm tired..."
"We should read them." Tennis Ball spoke. "Who knows what will happen if we don't..."
"Fine, partypooper..." Match scoffed. We took out our Monopads and looked at the rules.
Rules! (Be sure to follow them!)
Rule 1: Students are not allowed to leave the school.
Rule 2: "Nighttime" is from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. The kitchen, gymnasium and other areas are off-limits at night.
Rule 3: Students are allowed to sleep anywhere outside the dorms.
Rule 4: If a student's body is found, a set investigation time will take place.
Rule 5: After the investigation time is up, a class trial will take place. Students then have to figure out who committed the murder. Or as we address them: "The Blackened."
Rule 6: If The Blackened is caught, they will get punished. But if guessed incorrectly, everyone except The Blackened will be punished.
Rule 7: If anyone harms the headmaster, there will be severe consequences.
Rule 8: Destruction of the Monopads are prohibited.
Rule 9: If anyone breaks any of the rules made by the headmaster, there will be severe consequences.God, seeing the rules just makes me feel worse, we have to do a real life murder mystery. But of course, I wouldn't resort to killing another just because I want to leave. I glanced at the group, they were still looking at their pads. Bottle looked up from her screen. "Heyy, can we make up our own rules?" "Uhh... why though? Isn't that prohibited?" TB muttered out. "The rules didn't say we can't!" She added.
Ruby piped up. "So, who can come up with good rules, 'cause I can't." She glanced at the others, then I felt someone poking my shoulder. "You're quite the leader type, go on!" Leafy nudged me in the arm, my mind was focused on surviving, so I didn't know what to say. Usually, I am the one to give orders and instructions as a former student counsel. I cleared my throat. "Well, I suggest we add a rule about us not going out at night, that way we won't be in danger." I spoke. Gosh, it's been a while since I've spoken like that.
"Ah, I see." Tree mumbled. "That might be an interesting rule." He pulled out a notepad and a pen and proceeded to write something on it. "Anything else?" Pencil asked me, I shook my head. Look, I don't really have any ideas for rules in a place like this. Even in this situation.
"Ooh! Me!" Bottle raised her hands up. "How about we meet up at the cafeteria every morning? We could do like, a roll call! Should be fun, hehe." Wow, that's really good... These kids do know what to do in times of crisis.I saw Tree taking notes with everyone else beside him, and everyone seemed to be cooperative. I guess surviving might be much more easier. I hope I don't eat my words at the end of this.
I glanced at the clock, it said "9:00 p.m." It's almost nighttime, by this school's standards at least. I stood up from my seat. "Hey, it's almost nighttime. We should go to our dorms." I spoke. Everyone followed suit, Leafy led the way since she found the dorms. Each of us separated and it's only me outside, standing. My dorm's doorplate had a cute pixel rendition of me and my name, I pushed the door and went inside.
The room was like your typical dorm, it had a big wardrobe, a large bed, and a bathroom. Y'know, all of the essentials. I noticed a little card on the edge of the bed, it's like those 'welcome cards' that a hotel would prepare for you. It said:
"Welcome to your dorm room, Ultimate Negotiator Liy Switch! The school has prepared everything for you to stay at this very school, because of course, we want you to feel satisfied, right? Anyways, you can find decorations in the storage room on the second floor! Feel free to go all out on the decorations. And now, enjoy your eternal stay at Dream Island Academy, at least, if you survive that is!
- The Headmaster.Hah, of course they would make this for us. Like a silly little taunt, knowing that... we are helpless, with no way out of here. I threw the card on the floor and flopped onto the bed. It was surprisingly soft, and fragrant.
But I still had a feeling to check on some of the others, considering there was still more time left before 'nighttime'. I decided to check up on Leafy, she's probably the one I'm the closest to at the moment, but yeah, we just met. I knocked on her door, "Hey, it's me. Can I come in?" I said. "Oh! Come in. I'm busy right now, you can come in yourself." Leafy's voice emanated from inside. I saw both Leafy and Tree inside, and Tree was sitting on the floor, exhausted.
"Whoa, the hell happened here?" I retorted. "Sorry, Liy. We were trying to take these bolts off of the windows, or I think they are windows. And well, he's..." Said Leafy, as she pointed to the bolted window. "I don't think that's allowed knowing the circumstances." I said.
I glanced at Tree, he was practically breathless. And he was holding his hands, as if his hands were hurt. And oh boy, they were covered in blood.
"Oh my goodness, are you okay?" I went down to check up on his injuries. "I-it's okay. Those bolts have a lot of rust on them, i'm fine. Thank you for your concern." He said. "What do you mean you're okay? Your hands are bleeding-" I held my breath, I... shouldn't talk to him like that, it's almost nighttime anyway. "Liy, I'll tend to his injuries. I have it covered!" Leafy reassured me. I nodded. Tree stood up from the floor and sat on the bed, Leafy pulled out a medkit from under the bed and tried to bandage up his hand.
I looked at the clock and well, it was almost 'nighttime' by a few minutes, I said goodnight to the siblings and went back to my room. I saw 8-Ball exiting the accessible restroom, I gave a small wave to him before opening the door to my room, but weird, why is he out this late? But suddenly, we both heard a loud thump in one of the rooms, and lots of shuffling. He looked at the rooms, then turned to me.
"It's from Stapy's room." He said. "What?" I muttered out. "I dunno what to think about it. I'm tired."
"And... uhm-" He hesitated to speak. "Can you help me out? My arms are tired from pushing this." He gestured for me to help push his wheelchair for him.
"Sure, I guess." I obliged, holding onto the handles. "Where's your room?" He then pointed towards a door nearby mine. After a short walk, I dropped 8-Ball by his door. "Whoa. Thanks man. Goodnight." Then he disappeared into his room.
"Goodnight." I entered my room. I washed my face before laying on the bed, and prepared for a moment...of tranquility.
Even if it was interrupted by my sudden end.Goodnight.
