Pix lead him to a small cottage that was a short walk away (five, six, seven minutes at the most). It was very reminiscent of something that you might see in a fairytale- it appeared to be very out of the way of any sort of town or village. It was just kind of... in the woods by itself.
It appeared to be almost- peaceful, in a way.
At least, it was until Oli went inside.
When the pair entered the cottage, Oli immediately spotted a woman sat on the couch, facing away from the door. She had curly hair that was the same shade of brown as Pix's as well as being shoulder length, and she was throwing a book up in the air and catching it in a repeated motion.
When she turned around, however, instead of the dark blue eyes that he had expected her to share with Pix, her eyes were bright...
Yellow?
Was that normal? Probably not.
The strange woman spared a dismissive glance in Oli's direction for what was maybe half a second before turning to Pix with a frown. "Piiix. She's still engaged to the stupid- Joey of Eversea or whatever his lame-ass name is." The stranger whined.
Pix, clearly holding back laughter, raised one eyebrow. "Did you really expect Princess Katherine's mother to call off the engagement because you sent her an anonymous letter, sister?" When his sister didn't respond, Pix added, "You're better off trying to get with someone else- someone who isn't taken, preferably."
The yellow-eyed woman scowled, muttering angrily under her breath before looking back at Oli. She looked him up and down with a wary expression, the annoyance in her gaze swiftly being replaced with confusion. "Who's the idiot with the weird clothes?" Pix's sister remarked.
Oli opened his mouth to snap back a retort, but closed it again at a warning glance from Pix that said, clear as day, 'don't, it isn't worth it'. The brunette then cleared his throat. "Uh- this is Oli. I found him... passed out in the woods a couple minutes away from the house. His friend did a spell wrong that somehow ended up in him being sent here- I'm guessing teleportation? I don't know though- and I offered to let him stay here till he could find a way home- he seems harmless enough." Pix finished in a rush, pausing for a moment to catch his breath.
Oli chose not to take offence at the 'harmless' part (he could absolutely kick their butts if he needed to. He wouldn't of course- Pix had offered him shelter, that was rude- but if he needed to he totally could).
The yellow-eyed stranger shrugged, looking Oli up and down again thoughtfully. "Yeah, you're right, he doesn't seem too harmless." Again, Oli chose not to take offence (she did have a very punchable face though). "My name's Shelby! I'm Pix's sister." Yeah, I figured that out when he referred to you as 'sister'. Oli decided against the response, nodding with a wary smile.
"I'm Oli." He glanced back Pix before looking back at Shelby, who looked like she was holding back on an insult of her own.
"Right. What sort of spell did your friend cast again?" Shelby queried, tilting her head with a curious expression.
The Enderian hybrid paused, suddenly feeling slightly panicked- maybe he didn't exactly want to reveal his time-traveller-ness to these random strangers. He tried to say that respectfully, it was none of Shelby's business, thank you very much, but all that came out was a confused squeak. "What?"
Pix's sister rolled her eyes as if Oli was stupid or something. "I'm a witch." Shelby said slowly, enunciating the 'i' sound in 'witch' as if she was reaching a toddler a new word. "I might be able to help with your problem! And get you home. Preferably as soon as possible, you seem annoying." Shelby rolled her eyes at a glare from Pix. "What? He does! But yeah- if you tell me what spell your friend cast, I can try and get you home."
Oli didn't miss the sarcastic response from the brunette next to him. "Oh yeah, because witchcraft has never caused problems for you before, sister." Pix muttered with a roll of his eyes.
Shelby's response came in the form of her throwing the book she had been holding directly at her brother. Pix dodged it swiftly, reaching out and catching the book with the sort of expertise that suggested this sort of thing had occurred many times before.
The witch glared at her brother fiercely before her gaze returned to Oli. "But hey, uh... what was your name again? Oscar? Owen? ...Otto?"
Oli scowled. "My name is Oli." He retorted sharply.
"Oh, yeah, that. The offer still stands, Oli. I can try and figure out a way to reverse your friend's spell if you just- tell me what it was, you know." Shelby said with a shrug.
The Enderian hybrid thought about this for a moment before shaking his head. "Nah. I'll figure out." Truth be told, he was very curious as to what life was like 1600 years ago. He was sure it was going to be very different, but still interesting.
He also knew that people were still fairly advanced 1600 years ago but not as technologically advanced as people were back home, surely?
All in all, this looked like it was going to be a very interesting trip
Albeit, hopefully it would be a short trip- he was hoping to stay for a week, maybe two, to look around and then he just had to hope Jimmy and Joel found a way to bring him home.
He was hoping for it to last two weeks at most, is what he was trying to say.
Although if he had to guess, purely based on the 'skill' (if it could even be called that) that Jimmy had previously displayed with magic, Oli was going to be waiting a long time.
Ahjsjskdkksksjskakdjw update woo (writers block really came for me so I procrastinated for a week by writing a dragon fic)
Anyways yeah Shelby's Pix's sister, Bookblings/Booklings for life frfr
