The clock was almost eight and Morticia was waiting for Enid and Wednesday. She was nervous and hoped that her daughter would listen to her. She knew she had screwed up by not telling her about Larissa. If she was honest, she didn't know herself why she had never said a word about it.
And so she stood here in the crypt, waiting. She had set up many candles to create a cozier atmosphere, had put several pillows and blankets on the steps, had gotten 3 bottles of water and glasses for everyone, because after all, talking makes your mouth dry out.
Miss Sinclair had insisted on taking care of a screen and projector. She wanted to provide a nice ending and Morticia promised to take it and not say anything about the movie. She didn't even know it, so what could she say.
A short time later the door opened and Enid was the first to enter the crypt, followed by her daughter. When Wednesday saw them, her face fell. She was about to say something to Enid when Morticia responded immediately.
"Wednesday please," she said softly. "I want to finally bury this hatchet. I know I've made mistakes and I want you to listen to me. I promise you that I will listen to your thoughts, too. I don't want you to feel like I'm not listening to you."
Enid smiled lovingly at Wednesday and pointed her head in Morticia's direction." Come on Day. Give your mom a break."
Wednesday looked at her, switching her gaze back and forth between her mother and her friend. Unsure of what to do. As she looked around and set her sights on the crypt, she shook her head. Her mother had gone to all the trouble and made everything look so nice. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath to relax.
"All right, then," she agreed. "Let's talk."
Morticia and Enid were happy. It could only get better. "Jo, Miss A. that looks really great, it's really cozy," Enid said sincerely, to which Wednesday and Morticia looked at her in shock. Enid didn't know what she had done wrong to see those faces and unsettled. "What... What did I do wrong?" she asked with puppy eyes. Looking closely, one could see the corners of Wednesday's mouth lift. It was too cute to watch her friend blush and show those googly eyes.
"Now Miss Sinclair, I am a person who prefers the polite forms, so please, if you could drop the "Jo", I have no problem with other titles."
Enid gulped. Okay, that was just fine. She exhaled and noticed how her body seemed to relax. Wednesday turned to her mother and asked for a glass, which Morticia readily gave. But just as Wednesday reached for the glass and touched Morticia, her eyes dropped inward and her head shot back.
The Rave'N, Wednesday thought as she saw the crowd of students and teachers and their dresses. She saw her mother there, seeming to cry. Chaos erupted. Miss Thornhill standing silently in the corner. Lots of screams flooding her ears. Larissa looking wide-eyed at Morticia. Wednesday was spinning in circles, trying to get an overall view,
when suddenly she came back to herself and 3 pairs of eyes were looking at her.
"Mom," she said softly, hoping Larissa could anchor her and she could. "Wednesday, welcome back," she replied affectionately and Morticia smiled touchingly at this behavior.
