I wake up, surprisingly not hungover, in the most comfortable king-sized bed I have ever slept in. The sunshine splashing all over the room makes it impossible to sleep in and I see it's only 8:30.
I push myself out of the plush covers and yank the massive sliding door open to step onto the balcony that faces the ocean. There is a light breeze but the humidity is blocking most of it. My room is nine floors up so I have an amazing view of the beach and the lapping waves. Women have already taken over the beach chairs and are sprawled out, tanning and drinking cocktails. There are some swimmers diving into the waves and I wonder if Logan made it out to snorkel this morning.
I slide my hands down my face and wonder what the hell is going on there. I have never felt so much natural chemistry with anyone this quickly and he seems to be just as into it. I am not looking for a relationship but something is making me want to explore whatever is happening.
I feel my phone buzz in my pocket and I pray it is not the bridesmaid chat. I slide my phone out and see it's Emma.
You have not posted a single photo of Mexico yet. I am trying to live vicariously through you and you are giving me nothing.
I smile as I snap a photo of the view of the ocean and then text it to her. I give it a second and then call her.
"That's what I am talking about," Emma says as she answers the phone. I figured she'd already be up with how early Mads usually demands breakfast.
"The resort is beautiful. It's all tan stone and rock, like built into a cliff. The neutral-colored theme reminds me of Mom's house actually and my room alone is almost as big as the entire downstairs of my house."
"It's ritzy Mexico and not fiesta vibes Mexico?"
"Yeah, more Pottery Barn less piñata vibes. It's bougie."
"So you're actually enjoying yourself then?" She asks teasingly.
"I uh...yeah. That's actually why I am calling," I start, wondering how to approach this whole crush business because I know she'll become unglued with excitement.
"Uh oh, what happened?" She asks, bracing herself.
"Nothing bad, at least I don't think. I don't know..."
"You're doing that annoying thing you do when you're stalling. Just spit it out," Emma demands and I laugh.
"I think I have a small crush on one of Chase's friends," I admit and she louds out a loud whoooo! away from the phone.
"Thank god. I want you into anyone who isn't Chase Camden, but I will admit, you've been out there a day. How did this happen and who is the guy?"
I drop onto one of the loungers they have placed on the balcony and watch the waves as I reply, "Do you remember that guy we did an event for last summer? He's friends with Chase, they went to CU Boulder together. He's the engineer who created an e-bike company?"
"Didn't that guy drive you nuts?"
I laugh, "Yeah, he did. He was a pain-in-the-ass client who couldn't make up his mind on anything, but he lost the man bun, grizzly beard and jean shorts and is actually quite hot now. He also helped me not have a full-blown panic attack on the plane yesterday and we've just been vibing. I dunno. It's so weird and unexpected."
"Girl, I hope you get laid and come home with a new man. I hope you realize Chase is taken and leave that infatuation behind in Mexico."
"How did I know you were going to say that?"
"Because I have been telling you to ditch Chase for years now. Speaking of, how is it going with him and Ainslee? You've never had overnights with them before."
