I have never done the big gesture thing and I have never had a big gesture bestowed upon me either. I've seen it in movies and my heart swells as I watch the girl get the boy and walk off into the sunset. But in real life, it makes my palms sweaty and my heart race because I didn't quite know what I was doing. I'm not used to having a pain in my heart caused by anyone but Chase and I am hoping I didn't completely push Logan away.
Chase was right in that morning traffic was gone, so I was able to sweat out my anxiety for the entire forty-minute drive up to Boulder. I kept going over everything I had wanted to tell Logan but I didn't want to come on too strong either. I wanted a clear way of saying I was sorry for leaving like I did and that I wanted to continue whatever flirt fest we had in Mexico back here in Colorado. I didn't think I needed a boombox or flowers or anything physical to get his attention. I hope I can just walk into his office and ask him out for a coffee.
But was that enough? Did I need a sign with "I'm Sorry" spelled out in glitter? Did I need to bring him a cake or a note that said, "Do you want to date me? Check Yes or No." I agonize over the right way to do this as I glide off the highway and onto the side streets that lead to his office. I also hope that he's in his office and I don't waltz in with a big proclamation and am told to take a seat.
My GPS guides me to a brick storefront and I spot Swensen E-Bikes in neon among the row of other shops. I manage to find a parking lot across the strip and am impressed at the sleek exterior his shop has seeing as it's nestled between an adorable bakery and a charming bookstore.
My heart thunders in my chest as I approach the wide glass door and I see bikes scattered around inside as I heave it open. A pretty blonde woman who looks young enough to attend the college up the street greets me with a wide smile as I enter the store.
"Is there anything I can help you find today?" She asks sweetly and I notice there are a few guys milling about, checking out the different models.
"Yeah, I was actually hoping to see Logan. Is he in?" I ask and she flits her gaze to the back.
"Oh? Um, I can check. Can I let him know who is here?" I am unable to answer as a loud "Whoop!" brings our attention to the back again and I find Logan wearing slacks and a polo walking behind a wooden partition with another man holding a bottle of champagne in his hand.
"We got Portland!" The man shouts and then uses a long knife to saber the cork out of the champagne bottle, causing the bubbly to spill all over. Logan has his hands up in victory when he spots me next to his associate, completely ignoring the confusion of the other customers watching the sudden celebration. The woman standing next to me throws her arms up and dashes off to Logan to pull him in for a hug but his eyes never leave mine.
"Stella?" Logan asks like he's not entirely sure it could be possible that I am standing in his store.
"Hi," I nervously spit out and he pulls away from his ecstatic associate and the man now pouring the champagne into what looks like glass jars. His green eyes don't leave me and butterflies swarm. Yeah, I am still crushing on him hard. "You got Portland?" I quizzically ask and he glances back to the champagne as he strides over to me.
"Yeah, closed another huge deal," he says and I notice he's breathing heavily, like he had to physically close the deal.
"That's amazing. Congratulations."
"You're here?" He asks, and other employees are now behind us joining in on the day drinking, but the woman is still eyeing her boss as he remains transfixed on me.
"Yeah, I was going to ask you to go for a coffee, but it seems you're celebrating. Maybe I can take you for a drink later instead?"
"What? No, yeah, let's go for a coffee," he says eagerly with a wave of his hand.
