I will get straight into a general synopsis, and then split the sections for easier reading.

Just like in Death Note, there is the Shinigami Realm where the Shinigami reside- their purpose is to end human lives (pre-approved from the Seraph of Death, Azrael, that she gives to the Shinigami King ever 500 Earth years) and take the remaining lifespan for themselves. While the Shinigami take human lifespan, they do not take their souls. Azrael guides their spirits to either Heaven or Hell.

There is also Heaven and Hell, where the angels and demons also each have their own duty to fulfill in regards to the human world. The existence of Heaven and Hell is confirmed as canon in Death Note by two things: Ryuk stating their existence himself despite lying about it in the end to play with Light one last time, and Misa's bedroom adorned with Catholic symbols which confirms the existence of Christianity in the Death Note universe (and if Christianity exists, then so does everything pertaining to God).

The Shinigami's work isn't as separate from the angel's and demon's work as one would think. All 3 realms have specific rules they all must follow, and the location that said rules are broken can also matter in regards to punishment received.

RULES:

Heaven-

• Angels have free will and the ability to sin, but know better than to sin unlike humans who have sin in their fallen nature. Therefore they are able to withhold from sinning willingly.

• If an angel commits a purposeful sin in Heaven (an oxymoron because angels know what every sin is at their time of creation) they get sent straight to Hell as a demon and are given a new duty by Satan.

• Angels are all ranked and given a duty (their rank is determined by duty). Mikariel is the Angel of Eros Love (since there are theo-canonical angels of other love such as Agape) and is therefore a Seraph (the highest level).

• Angels can enter anywhere they want to, even Hell and the Shinigami Realm.

Hell-

• Just like when they used to be angels, they have free will. However despite having free will, they never desire to be good since it is not in their nature.

• Just like angels, demons are also ranked in Hell based on duty.

• Demons cannot enter Heaven, but they can enter anywhere else.

• Demons since The Fall have no ability or desire for love, friendship, or any kind of pure intention. They are able to understand those emotions, but are not able to feel them nor do they desire to do so. They are the essence of pure evil and, unlike humans, are not redeemable.

Shinigami-

• Shinigami have free will and sin does not apply to them for they are known as the walking dead.

• Shinigami exist to end the lives of sinners when need be (sinners being humans). They often meet with Azrael (more recently Azzi to help with the workload since the parties meet every 500 human years) to give input on when certain humans should die since they basically spend their time observing. Unlike Azrael, the Shinigami only pertain to human death while Azrael pertains to all death, so the Shinigami are seen as valuable in regards to deaths amongst humans.

• When a human dies, their lifespan is added onto the Shinigami's lifespan.

• Shinigami have no part in what happens to the human's spirit once Azrael takes it from the human's body.

• In regards to humans who use a Death Note, since they cannot enter either Heaven or Hell, they are sent to a place called "A Wanderer's Hell" where they simply roam the empty space for eternity (labeled as MU in the Death Note). (A Wanderer's Hell is specifically for has-been humans, not for has-been angels or demons. This is where Light Yagami ended up).

• Shinigami can neither enter Heaven nor Hell and can only visit Earth or the Atmospheric Library.

All Supernatural Beings-

• The Atmospheric Library is a place only accessible to supernatural beings and is a place of peaceful study. The library contains all kinds of information, rules, guidelines, and knowledge for all supernatural beings (some being classified to just the librarian and certain individuals depending on the situation and their rank), as well as different kinds of records for all humans. All items in the library are not allowed to leave the building, and fighting results in immediate transportation to where they were last.

• Supernatural beings can make official deals and they must be recorded by the Atmospheric Librarian, Wilson. However, the types of deals and what is allowed or not varies depending on the type of being making a deal and if it clashes with what they are and their regulations.
