Wind howled against the windows , rain torrents fell to the partially damp ground. Bennet sat with his face against the cold glass tracing the path of each rain drop as it fell along the window. The lights flickered behind him like a moth caught in a flame. Lady Harrison knew not to disturb Bennet when he was like this. He would sit for hours watching the rain fall. He told her it reminded him of the tears and pain he used to feel in Raven Court , when he used to feel his own emotions like everyone else. Sometimes if he listened closely to the rain he could hear the muffled screams of the unconverted as they are dragged to The Yard one by from 6 every night . It was the Raven's doing. The Ravens have no mercy ; they drag innocent people to The Yard. If you argue with The Ravens you might as well be in The Yard with the rest of them. Struggling is a sign of weakness. Those who are lucky enough to be enlightened cherish it , the nightmares stop , the darkness lifted. It is a privilege to be granted into the next by him , you are never meant to feel pain. But you know everything , you know all about The Yard and what happens beyond the large black fence , you know exactly what The Ravens do. Enlightenment comes at a price.

A gust of wind gently snakes around Bennet making him shiver pulling him out of his thoughts. Smothering him. lady Harrison hovered by the door way watching over him as she did every night , not once did she leave him ,to go to bed on his own. She could never live with herself if she let him go on his own , she would feel responsible for the dreams. Some nights she would hear him wake. Crying. Screaming. But she could never wake him. He had to wake himself. He was to powerful for her. Only he could wake himself from it. Only he could stop his own suffering. The clock stroke 10 signalling he end of the corruption of the innocent. For today that is. He got up from the window leaving the raindrops behind and gently smiled at Lady Harrison as he passed her , she smiled back weakly and walked back to her chambers. No words were spoken between them but Lady Harrison knew Bennet would cry tonight , she knew. He sat on his bed with a picture in his hands ; gently touching he paper as if it were made of fragile glass. Praying that The Ravens would stop. The bedroom door was left slightly ajar as he gazed at the photograph , he could hear Lady Harrison's light footsteps as she paced around the Grand hall.

He was not meant to feel this way; he should feel nothing towards anyone. He shouldn't care about The Yard or what The Ravens do. Lady Harrison couldn't bring herself to sleep that night she knew if she did she would be awoken by Bennet's sobbing and screaming. Bennet on the other hand tossed and turned flinching every time he closed his Eyes as he saw people being dragged away by The Ravens as he stood there watching helplessly from the next in the pouring rain.
