Leon's heart raced in his chest still. He laid in his bed staring at the ceiling again, but Danny's ghostly visage haunted his mind. He mistook every shadow in the corner for Danny dressed in a black cloak watching him.
The worst part was trying to decide whether to be excited and hopeful, scared, or angry. He had explicitly told Danny to get lost or he'd turn him in. But Danny was probably here to kill Leon, or try to at least. He had come at him with a knife when he first expressed a concern that Leon was out to get him. Why did the hot ones all have to be so crazy? That was definitely some kind of breakdown Danny was having. Leon felt nauseous with guilt knowing he had kicked Danny out on his own while he was in that state. He should have waited until he was more stable.
The wind shifted a shadowy tree branch outside Leon's window and he flinched. He sighed with frustration and slammed a pillow over his face, forcing himself into blindness to hopefully stop seeing things in his room. He needed sleep.
A gentle touch traced up his thigh and across the bare patch of skin showing where his shirt was pulled up slightly. He tensed, goosebumps raising quickly across his skin, but the touch disappeared immediately. He ripped the pillow off from his face and stared pointedly into the darkness but nobody was there. He had imagined the touch.
Sighing again, Leon sat up and turned the light on. He clearly wasn't getting any sleep tonight, so he might as well bring his surroundings into clarity to dispel the mistaken shadows. He was starting to get hungry again anyway.
He went to the kitchen for a snack, rubbing his face, then grabbed some chips and settled into the couch to watch a show and hopefully distract himself enough from his own thoughts to at least pass the night faster, if not sleep.
After that night, he continued to get notes every evening, but now they were being placed carefully in his mailbox. He wasn't sure whether that was because Danny was unable to get inside now that Leon was making sure to set his security though.
He was getting antsy playing this waiting game with Danny. But Danny would know that, of course. He knew Leon wasn't a fan of such long-winded suspense. But he would be torturing him on purpose, so he was probably planning to drag this out as long as possible. Leon was starting to almost get more impatient than scared or anything else, though. He wondered if Danny figured that would happen, or if he was even watching close enough to see Leon's shift in attitude. Hopefully, Danny would notice, and hopefully it wasn't something he had anticipated, so seeing Leon react differently would make him change his mind and hurry the fuck up.
Maybe Leon was just getting frustrated in other ways. His body thrummed with anticipation, expecting Danny soon. It had grown accustomed to, or even dependent on Danny's touch already and now it was past the point of politely asking for more. It was positively demanding it. Leon tried to quell his needs by himself but he never quite got satisfied anymore. He had stopped drinking coffee because the extra energy just went straight into lustful excitement, and he couldn't afford to be distracted in his line of work. Danny just needed to get over himself and pay Leon a visit like a normal person already.
Leon constantly thought he saw him around, but he always ended up being wrong. Danny's begging to be seen rang through Leon's head, bouncing painfully off the sides of his skull and making him feel stupid. Danny could be lurking anywhere around him, waiting to be noticed, and Leon was just not paying enough attention. He almost felt bad for not seeing him, but the list of other things for Leon to be guilty over was too big for him to worry about losing a game of hide and seek with an adult child.
He couldn't even enter his bedroom anymore without his heart skipping a beat. The whole place smelled like him, it smelled like Danny came in and lived in Leon's bedroom while he was away at work all day. He was just waiting to get home and immediately get tackled by Danny. He was almost starting to get desperate enough for him that it would be worth it to get killed for. Or whatever Danny had planned.
