Danny's mouth curled into a wide, idiotic smile. Just the presence of Leon's arms on his shoulders was making his entire body melt into him, and he immediately forgot about the rest of the world. He had been distant from him for so long that he had forgotten how spectacularly blissful it was to be accepted by him. He had actually managed to convince himself that he would be okay watching from the shadows, or even watching him move on from Danny, but this single touch had reminded him of all the reasons he could never let him go.
He ignored Leon's struggling and pulled him into another kiss, smiling against his mouth and spinning him around with a quiet giggle. There were a few tables around the room, Danny glanced around quickly to consider which would be best to bend Leon over, but Leon just shoved him away yet again with a flushed scoff.
"We don't have time for this, Danny!" Leon hissed in a fierce whisper. "I need to get you to safety." He grabbed Danny's wrist with a stern frown and dragged him back to the other room.
Danny's stomach sank and he pulled at his grip, but Leon refused to let go. "No, L-leon-! You don't want to go in there, I-!"
The words caught helplessly in his throat as Leon barreled through the door without even slowing. Danny's heart rate accelerated with nerves, he had never meant for things to go the way they had in this room, and he definitely didn't want Leon to witness the gory scene, but there was no stopping him. He actually hesitated a second when he saw the other three standing stricken, looking beyond the shelves at something blocked from view, but when Danny strained to tug him back again he just dropped his wrist and lifted his gun with both hands.
Leon stepped around the corner and froze, his eyes darting in quick zigzags across the floor and between the walls. He kept his mouth firmly straight in an attempt to hold in his reaction, but Danny could see the surprise and confusion struck across his face. After a couple of seconds, he turned back to Danny and only just seemed to notice the blood staining his knees and forearms, with splatters across his chest.
"What happened here?" He asked flatly.
Danny gulped and fidgeted nervously. "I swear, it was self defense, they- they ate the others, and they tried to come at me and I just- I tried to keep them away but they wouldn't listen! They didn't even flinch when I hurt them!" He looked down at his feet, his face pale. He had never been ashamed of himself before, but he couldn't bear to see that loathsome disgust in Leon's eyes again. "They weren't normal, I couldn't just let them get me-!"
Leon strode quickly over to Danny and slapped a hand over his mouth again. He grabbed his collar and looked around, listening. "Keep your voice down, Danny. There is a horde of over a dozen just outside this room. They're dead but they can still hear, and they will kill you if they surround you. What did you use to kill those three?" He pulled away and nodded at the corpses scattered around the room from Danny's earlier battle.
"The- um," Danny swallowed, his face heating. "The fire axe?" He pointed at the small handaxe leaning against the cabinets on the floor.
Leon crossed to it, stepping casually around the pools of coagulated blood and bits of flesh as if they were just mud or some other normal mess. He picked up the axe and held it out to him. "Don't ever let your weapon leave your hands. This is your one defense and you can't lose it, do you understand?" His voice was serious, almost scary. Completely different from the surprise and fear Danny had expected.
"Yes...?" Danny mumbled hesitantly, and reached out for the axe.
Leon placed it firmly in his grasp and turned back to the others. "Aim for the heads. Let's get moving."
His companions looked at him and nodded respectfully, but they eyed Danny with confusion and curiosity.
Danny recognized one of them, barely. He couldn't remember her name, but he was pretty sure she worked in this building regularly. She was short and curvy with a pencil skirt and an unfortunately nice blouse given the situation, and her short hair curled forward around her ears to her chin. The other woman was clearly a bodyguard like Leon, because she wore a similar outfit and was the only other one equipped with a gun.
