Part 19
Abe stood in his living room with a million questions running through his mind. John had just called him, asking for his help. They hadn't spoken since John had left Salem all those years ago. But being the detective that he was, Abe had kept track of where John had gone and his line of work. Not just out of curiosity but also because he genuinely loved him and cared about his best friend's wellbeing.
John had sounded panicked when he called, not really telling Abe much, only that he was in Salem and that something had happened to Marlena. John had asked him to check if any calls had come into the police station, anything that could indicate an accident or something like that.
If it had been anyone other than John who had asked him to help, only based on a hunch, Abe would have told them that they were crazy, but he knew of the special connection that John and Marlena had had and apparently still had. And if John believed that Marlena was in some kind of danger or trouble, he would not question it.Abe called the police station, but it had been a quiet day so far. One thing though, did trigger his alarm. Someone had called to report what had looked like a car chase. But when the police arrived at the reported scene, nobody had seen anything and there were no signs of a vehicle or a crash. Abe wrote down where the officers had searched, which was around the riverside and the bridge crossing the river.
Abe knew the area well, there were a lot of industrial buildings there, which meant that there would probably be surveillance cameras. But seeing as no crime or accident had taken place, he wouldn't be able to get the footage.
Picking up the phone Abe called John and informed him.
"So you can't ask the owners for their surveillance footage?" John asked, frustrated.
"No, not as a police officer anyway. But this is where you and your company come into the picture." Abe hinted and hoped John would get where he was going. As a police officer, Abe couldn't encourage John to do something illegal, such as hacking into the surveillance systems, but if he just planted the idea in John's head then he figured no harm was done.
It took a moment for John to understand what Abe was saying, his mind was so clouded, making it hard for him to think. And how did Abe know about his company?
"Abraham, thank you so much." John said with a hint of hope.
"No problem, partner. And please call me if there's anything else I can do. And when you find her, I want to see you and catch up okay?"
"Of course...thank you again..." John said and hung up.

Within an hour, John was in possession of video footage from the area that Abe had told him to take a look at. His company had some of the country's best technology and apparently some of the best hackers, who knew how to access almost every computer without leaving any trace.
Now sitting in his car, with his phone in his hand, by the riverside, John opened the first file that was sent to his email.
John felt his heart racing as he watched the video. For the first 30 seconds nothing unusual appeared but then a black car started driving unusually close to the car in front of it and then hitting it from behind.
Opening the next file, John saw how the black car started bumping into the side of the other car. The images were blurry but he instantly recognized Marlenas car from earlier at the church when he had watched her and Brady.John felt a stab to his heart as he watched the black car crash into Marlena's again and again as they neared the bridge ahead.
Taking a deep breath, John opened the last file. With fear and desperation he saw Marlena's car spinning out of control and flying off the bridge and into the water. He rewinded to watch again and noticed that no people or other vehicles were around to witness the accident, which meant that nobody had been around to rescue her.
