Della's pov:

Today was the day of the Yule ball. I was nervous but also excited. We still had 5 hours until we had to get ready so me and Hermione went to go and study in the library. We both had to finish a quick assignment. While working the door to the library opened and Lavender came in. She noticed us and came over and sat with us.

"Hey lav." I said as I looked up from the book and smiled at her. I noticed from the corner of my eye that Hermione had a nervous and sad look on her face.

"Hello Della. Are you excited for the dance? I'm sure Ron looks great just for you." She said with a cheeky smile on her face as she rested her head on her hands.

"Oh I'm very excited but a little nervous at the same time." I said chuckling at the end. Her smile seemed turn into a grin. She laughed at my words.

"There's no need to be but I understand. It would be a shame if he just left you in the middle of the dance. Wouldn't it?"

I was confused. Why would he leave me in the middle of the dance? Why would he even ask if he didn't even want to go with me? Was it a dare?

I started to think that Lavender was talking to Ron in the library more and more. I looked at Hermione and her face was a lot more pale than what it was before Lavender came.

"Why would he leave me in the middle of the dance?" I asked turning back to her. Her grin only grew bigger.

"I'm sure he won't. But I would still be careful. Don't you think it's weird that he asked you to go with him when you guys never talked  before he asked you?"

I was wondering the same thing for days but I still ignored it. "Well I guess it is a bit weird but maybe he was just to scared to talk to me before."

"Hmm, maybe. I never thought of it that way." She said. "Well I'll see you two at the ball later. I'm sure your dresses are beautiful." She winked at us before getting up and leaving.

I turned to Hermione, forgetting about my homework.

"Why did she say that?" She just shrugged at my question but I knew she knew. When she lies her face goes pale or when she knows something that she isn't telling me she'll go quiet and her face is flushed.

"Are you sure you don't know? I know you know something that I don't."

"I don't know what you're talking about, Della." She said quickly that I almost didn't catch it. "I won't be mad." I said more quietly and slower.

She got up and slammed her books shut and picked them up. "I don't know anything Della, so please just drop it." She tucked in her chair.

"Now let's go get ready we have 3 hours until the ball." I looked at the clock and noticed we've been in here for awhile.
