Mrs. Pat hadn't been able to see her grandbaby since she was first born, and she has already turned 6 weeks old. She was telling her friend Cora that she doesn't know why they are treating her like that. She also heard that one of the Ushers at the church, Ms. Linda was taking food to Pastor Fred a few days a week. That pissed her off. She always knew Ms. Linda liked her husband because she was too extra around him. One day she drove to the condo where Fred was staying to talk to him, but it turned into an argument.
Later that evening, Fred stopped by Fatima's house to see Baby J. He told her what her mother did. He thought they should have an intervention for her, and she agreed.
So, Fatima called everyone to see if they could attend.
It was this Saturday at the Taylor household. Fatima asked her if she could come over to watch the baby because Zac was out of town. That was her way to get her over there. She asked everyone not to come over until after Pat got there, so she wouldn't see the cars and try to leave.
Mrs. Pat agreed but didn't know it would be an intervention. Pastor Fred, Fatima, Zac, Madea, and Mrs. Johnson (Paris's mother) were all in attendance. Also invited was Dr. Jada, Andi's therapist. Cora was there to support Mrs. Pat and Ms. Tam was only there to watch baby J. So she stayed upstairs out of the way.
When Mrs. Pat arrived, Fatima asked her to park in the garage. That way she can't just up and leave when things don't go her way.
"Where is Mimi's grandbaby?" she asked.
"She's upstairs asleep. Can we talk for a minute?" asked Fatima.
"Talk about what?"
"Your behavior and why you haven't been able to see Jurnee. For almost a year you have been acting out of character and no one seems to be able to get through to you. So, I invited some close friends and family over to have an intervention with you."
"I'm not doing that." Said Mrs. Pat. "So, you called me over here to have everyone gang up on me?"
"Mom, somethings got to change. I'm sorry, but if you want to see Jurnee and be an involved grandma, you have to."
By that time the guests started showing up.
"You invited your father," she said seeming disgusted. "And what is your Aunt Madea doing here?" She watches everyone come inside. "Cora, you're in on this too?"
"No Pat, I told Fatima I didn't want to have anything to do with this. I would only come to support you because I know how these interventions go," said Ms. Cora.
"I'm not doing this with you guys," Pat said.
"Hi, Patricia. I am Dr. Jada, a licensed therapist. Your friends and family asked me to come here today to get to the bottom of what the issues are. The ones you may have with them, or they may have with you. It's obvious they love you dearly or they wouldn't have taken the time out on this beautiful Saturday to be here when they could have been elsewhere."
Cora went to sit beside Pat.
"Dr. Jada continues, "Everyone will have plenty of opportunities to use their voice. All I ask is no screaming, yelling, cursing, or calling anyone out of their name. It may get emotional so please be mindful of everyone's feelings."
"Where would you like us to sit?" asked Zac.
"How about everyone take a seat and make a circle," suggested Dr. Jada. "Then we will place two chairs in the middle.
Everyone does what they were told.
"Mr. and Mrs. Wilson, can you have a seat in the middle?" asked Dr. Jada. "We're going to play a game, whoever answers first can start first."
