"Dependent/Independent"

This one's a doosy.

Now, the actual meaning of dependent is having to lean on somebody else, being incapable of standing alone.

But for some reason, a hater's definition of being dependent is being in a relationship.

Where's the logic in that?

At least that's the idea I get when fans praise Elsa and others for being single. It seems that being in a romantic relationship is frowned upon, even though it's the exact opposite of being dependent; it's two persons working together to find compromises. In other words: having a significant other doesn't make you weak. Now, if you are submissive to them, that is what makes you dependent.

There's also the notion that kicking butt makes you independent (i.e. Mulan, Merida, etc.). In a way, yes it does. But there are different sides to the word.

For example, you could be mentally or spiritually independent. Elsa may be physically independent with her cool (pun totally intended) ice powers, but she is far from that emotional-wise.

This is due to her fear.

And by the end of the movie, her sister saves her from that.

That's really no different than being saved by a man, but whatevs.

Anyhoo, the point is that Elsa couldn't face her fear alone.

It's just like Belle saving the Beast (Adam, same dif) both emotionally and physically, with love.

That's because a lot of Disney has to do with feeling. Not with logic, or brawn, but with the heart.

There are also those who overcome obstacles physically, but it's like I said in my Disney Magic chapter. Why can't we have them both?

Yeah it's cheesy. If you don't like it, don't watch it.

Plus, Snow White is always seen as everybody's least favorite because she's weak. WHAT? Keep in mind that this is a fourteen year old who is faced with the fact that her stepmom wants to kill her. But she still treats these wild animals with kindness and cleans these dwarves' home and doesn't want revenge on the queen SHE DOES NOT DESERVE THIS. Yes, she took an apple from a stranger. Are you telling me you wouldn't take free food from a seemingly harmless old lady? Especially when you're a naive little girl who doesn't expect any treachery. She wasn't smart, but I'd take that over not being kind.
