This one has been a long time coming.
It has been pointed out more times than I can count that Disney is not very realistic. I mean, talking animals, Love at First Sight, perfect hair, etc.? It has also been pointed out that these kinds of things are bad examples for children. Well I say that's rutabega paste.
All of these elements can be classified as nothing other than Disney Magic. I mean, the movies are supposed to be fantasy, so why can't there be singing mice? They're supposed to be magical places where you can escape from the real world. Am I glad that Disney is not doing so much Love at First Sight anymore? Yes; I love watching two people grow closer through the trials they go through together. I'm just saying that things were done differently back then.
Frankly, I don't think we give kids enough credit. There have been a lot worse kids programs, not just Disney, that can be argued to be worse (Heck, Spiderman jumps off buildings all the time! You don't see young boys doing that everyday, though. Plus, Spidey is awesome and has good morals). Do you really think that if a little girl saw Snow White let a strange old woman inside, she would immediately follow her lead? If anything, I think it would teach them that while Snow was trying to be nice, you shouldn't let anyone in your house. However, while children do have minds of their own, there are kids who look up to Disney Princesses enough to do that.
But isn't that what parents are for? To help guide them about these kinds of things? Kids movies can only go so far.
Disney taught me to dream, and if I want to dream about a magic flying carpet, I will! :P
This kind of thing can really be debated lots of different ways. This is just mine. I'd love to hear yours (respectfully, of course)! Peace out.
Actually, one more thing: the perfect hair thing. Is it really that insane what princesses woke up with nice hair? After all, sometimes I wake up with hair like Ariel's and other mornings it'll look like Anna's. But that is one of the great things about these girls: despite popular protest, they are relatable for all kinds of people, whether you are someone with unruly hair when you wake up, or volominous hair. Whether you've ever felt like you don't belong, or whether you've ever wanted to escape and go on an adventure, whether you feel shut out from a family member, or just trapped. And they all teach us the same thing: elements and persons may stand in your way, but you can follow your dream, and you can reach your goal. So I ask you, which princess are you?
Dude, I am so inspirational. No I'm not, I'm just kidding.
