【 𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐄 𝐅𝐈𝐄𝐋𝐃 𝐅𝐀𝐌𝐈𝐋𝐘 】
𝐈𝐓 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐄𝐗𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐋𝐘 as Ray had predicted. Right after dinner, Emma and Norman snuck out of the house. After all, everyone could use their free time as much as they wanted, so no one paid any attention to the two who quickly ran into the forest.
"Remember what we decided" Ray whispered, jumping over the blue-painted railing. "We didn't know anything" from under the fringe he measured the e/c eyed girl. The girl followed him with a fierce, determined expression. She knew it was the only way his plan would work, but she felt bad about having to cheat on her friends.
"Mhm" She only nodded, not having time to speak because she was catching her breath after a mad run towards the wall. She wasn't very good at tag. She could hardly keep up with the black-haired boy. She had always hated that about herself.
Even now, she could feel beads of sweat running down her forehead. That's why she always fell behind when Ray, Emma and Norman won the game. She wasn't like them. She wasn't as physically fit as Ray or her red-haired friend. It is true that Norman was also rather weaker in health, but he made up for it with an amazing, above-average intellect. Three of the most talented children living in an orphanage. For them, the impossible became quite real. Did she really have a chance to escape Grace Field? She was getting weaker with each passing moment. She slowed down until all she could see was the faint outline of Ray's back. Could she escape the demons? Survive?
"Ray..." she panted and stopped, resting her hands on her knees. "Hold on a second. I can't..."
The boy suddenly slowed down and turned around seeing what state she was in. Y/n swayed, feeling her heart begin to pound again. Every time she made any attempt to exercise more, the girl's heart started its standard show. First radiating pain in the chest, covering the lungs, slowly climbing up to paralyze the neck. Then a few quick, uneven strokes. H/c haired girl tightened the material of the shirt and moaned softly, leaning more and more.
"What's going on, Y/n?!" Ray tossed The Mechanical Engineering and Human History book aside, straight onto the grass, and clambered over to the girl.
"Nothing... Everything is-" she hissed and froze. There came that terrifying moment where her heart stopped for a few seconds. Sometimes a dozen. It was the same every time. Each time she counted the seconds in her head, and each subsequent one echoed in her mind, a bloodcurdling echo.
Five...six...seven... twelve...
"Y/n?! What's wrong?! Shit! You could have told me you couldn't run!" He put his hands on her shoulders, and fear flashed in his eyes as he saw the pain on her lips.
Suddenly everything stopped. It was back to normal. Her heart was beating in a healthy, normal rhythm again. She took a deep breath, lifting herself on the boy's shoulders. Sometimes it seemed to her that after another attack she would not get up again. That her heart would stop. Forever.
