CHAPTER SIXTEEN:

The sun shone brightly on the walls of Françoise Dupont High School as students bustled through the hallways, engrossed in their own worlds.

Among them, Chloé Bourgeois and Lila Rossi whispered conspiratorially, their eyes darting towards a particular girl-our female protagonist, (Y/N).

Chloé and Lila met in a secluded corner of the school, away from prying eyes. With mischievous smirks on their faces, they whispered their scheme to one another.

Their plan was simple yet effective: to sabotage (Y/N)'s reputation and make her the laughingstock of the school.

It was their way of finally gaining the attention they craved.

Chloé, always seeking to assert her dominance, had taken an instant disliking to (Y/N) and saw her as a threat to her popularity.

Lila, ever the opportunist, eagerly joined in, relishing the chance to participate in Chloé's devious schemes.

They concocted a plan to sabotage (Y/N)'s reputation at school, hoping to tarnish her standing and popularity.

Unbeknownst to them, another set of eyes was observing their every move.

Luka Couffaine, a kind-hearted and observant musician, had noticed the scheming duo and sensed their ill intentions towards (Y/N).

Determined to put a stop to Chloé and Lila's malicious plot, Luka devised his own plan. He discreetly followed the duo, making sure to stay out of sight. Luka knew he had to act quickly to prevent (Y/N) from falling into their trap.

He couldn't stand idly by and let them harm someone he cared about.

Luka quietly approached Chloé and Lila, his eyes narrowed with determination. "What are you two up to?" he asked, his voice laced with a warning tone.

Chloé and Lila were taken aback by Luka's unexpected intervention.

They had expected no one to stand in their way, especially not Luka, who they believed had no interest in (Y/N)'s well-being.

However, Luka's actions proved them wrong, and they were left speechless.

Chloé smirked, reveling in her mischief. "Oh, just planning to make (Y/N)'s life amazing. She deserves it."

Judging by the tone of her voice and the way she snorted, Luka was certain that she was up to no good.

Luka and Chloé rarely talked, so to say that Chloé was surprised at him approaching them- It was a bit of and understatement.

Lila added with a sly grin, "It's time she learned her place. Why do you even care?"

Luka's jaw tightened, his protective instincts kicking in. "You two need to stop this right now. (Y/N) has done nothing wrong, and you have no right to make her suffer."

Chloé scoffed, dismissing his concerns. "What are you going to do about it? She doesn't even like you, dingus."

Luka's eyes flashed with determination as he replied firmly, "I won't let you hurt her, no matter what it takes."

With that, Luka turned and swiftly walked away, leaving Chloé and Lila stunned by his unexpected show of defiance. Their plans had been thwarted, at least for now.

As the day progressed, Chloé and Lila executed their scheme, spreading false rumors and orchestrating situations that would make (Y/N) look foolish and undeserving of her popularity.

(Y/N) remained oblivious to the conspiracy brewing around her, going about her day with her usual kindness and grace.

Just when Chloé and Lila thought their plan was foolproof, Luka intervened.

He appeared just in time, creating a diversion that drew attention away from (Y/N) and exposed Chloé and Lila's true intentions.

Luka's intervention left Chloé and Lila dumbfounded, their plan crumbling before their eyes.

Meanwhile, (Y/N) continued her day, unaware of the looming threat that had just been averted.

She couldn't shake off the feeling that something was amiss, but couldn't quite put her finger on it.

Little did she know that Luka, the person she barely considered a dear friend, had just saved her from a potential disaster.

Later that afternoon, as the final bell rang, signaling the end of the school day, (Y/N) found herself sitting on a bench in the courtyard, lost in her thoughts.

With notepad and pen in hand, she wrote and scribbled down something almost incoherent to everyone else but her.

She juggles ideas and plots with swift and precision, but her writing could use some work.

She was startled when Luka appeared beside her, a gentle smile on his face.

"Hey, (Y/N), mind if I join you?" he asked, his voice soft and comforting.

(Y/N) looked up, a little bit of bewilderment and relief washing over her as she recognized Luka. "Uh- Sure? What's up?"

"(Y/N)," Luka said softly, his voice filled with genuine concern. "I couldn't help but notice something earlier today. You're always so kind to everyone, and I wanted to make sure you're okay."

Surprised by Luka's unexpected display of thoughtfulness, (Y/N) couldn't help but feel her heart skip a beat. She looked into his eyes, searching for answers.

Unfortunately, she wasn't able to form any actual thoughts at the time. The turtledove in her heart flew and she was left feeling reddish and flustered.

"That was so random." She breathes out. "But yeah being so kind to everyone gets so exhausting sometimes. Especially when you really don't like them."

Luka, intrigued by her words, urged for her to continue. He scoots closer, eager to listen to what she has to say.

She turns to look at him, then flashes a small smile that had Luka's heart melting in an instant. "thank you for your concern. I'm not sure what happened, but I feel like someone was following me around or something. It's strange."

Luka nodded, understanding the weight of the situation. Then it clicked him- Chloé and Lila weren't the only ones who's been following her.

He quickly waves a hand at her dismissively, eyes glowing wide and sweat trickling down his forehead as he's realized that (Y/N) probably felt uncomfortable with him following her around all day.

"No one's been following you! I'm pretty sure!" An awkward laugh escaped Luka, not helping out the situation at all.

"How would you know?"

"I- I.. Why would anyone follow you?"

"Hmm... Touché I'm too boring to be followed."

'Your not boring' Is what Luka wanted to tell her.

To him, she was like a mysterious book. An intriguing book that he'd read over and over again. He wanted to lend her a shoulder, to give her comfort-

"You aren't so bad." Luka breathes out, cursing silently afterwards for his masked words.

Touched by Luka's sincerity, (Y/N) smiled, her worries dissipating. In that sweet moment, a bond formed between them, a connection.

Maybe Luka Couffaine wasn't so bad after all.
