Evangeline had always been different

Evangeline had always been different. Growing up she always acted more maturely than a nine year old should resulting in her not having many friends and being outcasted. Not that she minded being alone, she liked the peace and quiet away from everyone where she could sit down under a tree with a book or gaze up at the sky, imagining herself flying through the clouds. She had always had an interesting imagination.

Evangeline had a younger sister Amelia who was quite the opposite to her but maybe that's why the two were so close. With their parents being gone and her aunt always out of the house, Evangeline stepped into the role of looking after her younger sister.

The Pond sisters were fascinated with the stars, the two often staying up late to look out of their window up at the different constellations. That is exactly what Evangeline was doing on the evening that a strange blue box fell out of the sky and crashed into their garden.

The Pond's House - 1997

It is night time and whilst Evangeline stared out the window up at the stars, her sister is behind her on her knees saying her prayers.

"Dear Santa. Thank you for the dolls and pencils and the fish. It's Easter now, so I hope I didn't wake you, but honest, it is an emergency. There's a crack in our wall. Aunt Sharon says it's just an ordinary crack, but we know it's not, because at night there's voices, so please, please, could you send someone to fix it? Or a policeman. Or a..." Amelia says hopefully before pausing once she hears a crash from outside.

Evangeline's eyes widen as she watches a blue box come out of nowhere in the sky and crash into the shed in their back garden. Amelia jumps up from her bed, grabbing a torch before walking over next to her sister to see a blue police box outside, sitting right where their shed once stood.

"Thank you, Santa" Amelia says as her sister turns to her in disbelief.

"I don't think that was Santa" Evangeline says quietly to Amelia who ignores her comment.

"Come, Evie. Santa sent us someone to help" Amelia says excitedly as she pulls her older sister out of their room and down the stairs. The two sisters hastily put on their shoes before unlocking the front door and running out. Evangeline made sure to grab a cricket bat on her way out, she doesn't know what is out there, no harm in being prepared.

The girls slowly approach the blue box which has smoke coming from every corner of it. Evangeline places herself in-front of Amelia as she holds one hand wrapped around the bat pointing it at the box whilst her other hand holds Amelia.

Suddenly, the doors fly open and a grappling hook flings out and latches into the ground beside where they are standing, before a pair of hands can be seen. Finally, a man completely soaked, hauls himself out of the doors so that he is sitting on the edge of the Tardis.
