"I was so scared mom and dad would be angry."
"Yeah, well, Mom was at first. Dad seemed happy just to know I was still alive."
The two siblings sat in the comfortablility of each other's presence in the morning chill through the window. Arizona played on her phone, taking a break from final exam prep. Austin was posted at his computer, searching for the highest paying food services.
"Look at this one," Austin rushed, "A twenty-two dollar per hour host or hostess position, 4 days a week that comes with an employee discount of 20% off!"
"You should totally apply!"
"You think so? I mean, what if they don't allow 17 year olds? What if the pay isn't actually 22 dollars, and they are going to negotiate a lower pay for more hours? What if I'm not cut out for a ho -"
"Done!" The computer made a cute ding sound as the 'Apply' button changed from green to blue.
"Arizona! You just applied me for a job I wasn't sure about!"
"What's going on up there, you two?" His mother yelled up the steps.
"Arizona–" Austin glanced over to his sister, who was undoubtedly preparing to be lectured. "Arizona stole a pen from my desk without asking, sorry. I won't shout at her for such stupid things anymore." He replied loudly from his chair.
The house fell silent before his mother returned, "Just be good to each other, please, and Austin, I need you down here in ten minutes!"
Austin's eyes drifted toward Arizona, who was already observing his emotions. The concern in both sibling's eyes growing as time lengthened itself. The next seven minutes were spent in silence before Arizona moved her arms into a full hug, to which Austin rushed into.
"What could I have done wrong now?" He sobbed.
