Soren and Adelle hurried to the portal. As they approached, there was a sudden click and crossbow bolt flew down towards them.
Soren pulled Adelle, not realising that he was pulling her into the crossbow bolt's path, towards him. It was only when she let out a cry and fell that he realised what he'd done.
And that where it had hit her, she wouldn't live.
Soren held her close as tears started to slide down his cheeks. "What have I done...." He whispered, looking into her eyes.
"Your.... Not at fault, my dear.... Oh and...." She pulled something out and pressed it into his hand and raising her other hand to cup his cheek. "Remember me.... With that...." She said softly as her breathing slowed. "I love you...."
She took her final breath.
And her hand fell from his face as her body went limp.
Soren broke down, burying his face in her still chest. However long it was, he'd never know, but when he looked up, he saw a child get stabbed and fall to the ground dying. He saw another child, trying to break free from her father's firm hold to run to her friend, screaming her friend's name.
"WADE! Dad, let me go back."
"You'll get killed!!"
"I don't care, Dad just please let me go back...." She sobbed.
"Ava, I'm so sorry but you can't...."
The child, Ava apparently, broke down. "But she's my sister..."
"I'm really sorry Ava..."
"I hate you!!" She yelled at him as she went running through the portal.
"AVA!!!!" Her father cried out as he ran through after her.
Soren slowly got to his feet, walking towards the portal and going through.
Out of all the days he wished he could forget, this was one of them.
But he never would.
Len stood watching. Why did he have to be The Watcher....
