Soren woke up in a dimly lit room. He went to move only for pain to ricochet through his body as he put weight on his wrists. He fell back with a cry. "Lucid?!" He screamed.
Lucid wasn't coming though.
He would never come for him again.
Soren put his hands on his face and turned onto his side, curling up and crying. "Why was it you? Why did you have to die?" He sobbed. "I'd give up everything for you... I'd give my life for you to be alive.... I deserve everything I get but you.... You deserved to live.... You would never have gotten sick if you hadn't taken care of me...." He looked at the stitched up cuts on his wrists. "Why did they help me...?" He whispered.
Someone was watching. He sighed. Sometimes, he really wished he could alter fate. Especially when it came to...
He shook his head. He kept watching the poor child before he felt someone enter the room. "You should've taken his soul, Kristen."
"You know I don't do that. You know that I prefer to give them chance, Len."
Len turned on his heel to look at her. "This is the second second chance you've given him! Do you have any idea the amount of pain someone feels when they lose someone they care about?!" He said, anger flickering in his eyes
Kristen looked away. "Yes, I do. I have seen many people go through pain as I've had no choice but to take the souls of children. I have seen many suffer to the hands of war. I saw what happened to Tenshi and I know you blame one person now, in a way. And I know how it feels. I had a child once, my very own. But... I had to take my own son's soul. Alberion took him from me. He takes care of him because I...."
"Your scared and still in pain."
Kristen nodded. "Yes, I am. I don't like having to take would from those that are dead. I didn't like taking Tenshi's, because I knew you loved him. And you still do. If you asked me to take your soul, then I would. I would take it and put it with Tenshi's so you two would be together for all eternity." She looked in Len's eyes. "And if you don't believe me, then look in my eyes."
Len was quiet for a moment. "I will ask you one day. But take the child's soul. The next time he is close to death, take him."
"No. He reminds me to much of my son."
Len looked back at Soren. "Then he will continue to suffer."
"I know. But ask XD or Alette. They will tell you that he has years left to live. You nor I can change the course of fate, Len. You are merely The Watcher. I am merely The Goddess of Death. I listen to what they say an I act on that. I am sorry, but I can't take a soul that isn't destined to go yet." And with that, Kristen as gone.
Len sighed. Sometimes he really wished that Kristen would act on her instincts.
