kitty & red forman's basement
july 1995"so what's the verdict? are we really gonna do this?" rhia asked as her and jay looked inside the brown bag. the sixteen year old was not a stranger to smoking, but her cousin was.
"i don't know guys— i mean, i'm literally wearing this." leia said, moving the front of her button up over to show her DARE shirt.
"yeah, they're daring us to do it." gwen responded as leia fixed her shirt again.
"yeah they didn't really think that through." leia said, crossing her arms over her chest. there was a beat of silence before nate ran out of the small, curtained off area of the basement.
"does this count as a lighter?" he asked, holding a blowtorch. rhia watched jay's eyes basically light up at the question.
"uh, yeah." he said before the group decided that they were gonna go through with the idea. they all sat in a circle around the small coffee table.

the group of teenagers stayed in the basement until leia went upstairs to get food for the group. that left gwen, nate, nikki, jay, and rhia in the basement. they all basically stuck to themselves, with nate and nikki next to each whispering to themselves. rhia had found a spinning top and was basically transfixed on it when jay sat down next to her.
"have you ever thought about how..." jay began to say to her, his voice muffled in her ears as she turned her head to face him.
"what?" she heard herself say, the noise around her becoming clear as he spoke again.
"have you ever thought about how it would be if we grew up with our parents?" he asked her again, the top rhia had falling off the table.
"it would've been weird. my mom was older than my uncle and i honestly don't think they liked each other a lot." rhia said, her mind taking a bit to catch up with her as she spoke. "what do you think it would've been like?"
"well my dad has told me about how it was, and it honestly sounds fun. it'd be hard to replicate, especially 20 some years later." jay said before getting cut off by rhia.
"hey the other day you said that leia wasn't your type— what is?" she said, watching jay's face morph into slight embarrassment and uncomfortableness. thankfully for him, they were interrupted by gwen deciding they were gonna explore the house.

the group of teenagers made their way upstairs of the forman's house (sans leia), entering what they thought was leia's room. rhia was still out of it enough not to entirely realize where they were. jay immediately picked up a nightgown off the bed, holding it up and looking down at it.
"she's got sensible sleepwear." he said, nate going behind him and picking up a bottle a pills.
"and high blood pressure." he said, showing jay the pills. his words seemed to snap rhia out of it, her eyes scanning over the room.
"this is my grandparents room." she said, jay immediately dropping the nightgown as gwen opened the closet revealing a bunch of flannels.
"it's the motherload." she said, as ozzie walked straight into the closet. they began pulling out flannels, nikki taking one and holding it up to nate. leia came running in after realizing they weren't in the basement.
"oh you guys are in my grandparents room. i've never dated step foot in here my whole life." she said, red coming in behind her as she spoke.
he told them all to get downstairs, the seven teenagers filing into the kitchen. kitty had just finished baking some brownies and gave each kid one as they left. once jay, who was the last one, red locked the back door.
"we're sorry grandpa." leia said for the two forman teens as red turned to face them.
"i've lived through this once before. and i'm setting ground rules this time." he said, standing in front of his two granddaughters.
"no eating my food, no drinking my drinks, and if they go in my room, my foot goes in their ass." he said, kitty immediately starting to talk.
"people keep all kinds of private things in their bedroom..." she said, beginning to talk about her father. rhia went up to her room as her grandparents continued to talk to leia. she sat on her bed, putting her headphones on and pressing play on the cranberries cassette she had in her tape player.
katie speaks!
