“So, about the pancake… Which brand do you prefer, ba?” Kiera asked, holding two boxes of different brands of pancakes in her hand, as she turned to Justin.

The first thing Justin did when they returned to Manila was run errands for his mom, even though he didn't have to. He still has a free day, though, and it's his chance to talk to Kiera, who agreed to accompany him, about their interrupted conversation in Siargao, but he lacks the courage to do so.

“Uhm… Magkaiba ba 'yan? Ano ba pinagkaiba nila? Parehas lang naman 'yan 'di ba?” he asked, looking at the two boxes, then at Kiera. “Si Mama kasi madalas bumibili…”

She snorted and laughed a little. “I'm sorry… I almost forgot na taga kain ka nga lang pala 'no? Paano na 'yan 'pag nagsarili ka na, Justin? Walang magluluto para sa'yo, e 'di ka naman din marunong magluto.”

“Kaya ko magluto 'no!”

He wasn't thinking about acquiring a condo or anything right now, though, because he's busy building a house for his family, but he might get one someday, who knows. He looked between the two cartons of pancakes in her hand once again before turning his focus to her when he noticed her struggling not to giggle.

“What is it? Bakit ka natatawa, Kie?”

“Nothing, sorry…” she shook her head, laughing at the thought that had just occurred to her. “I just remembered something lang kasi… Natatandaan mo ba yung ginawa mo sa giniling, Jah?”

“Tanda mo pa 'yon? Bagong technique kasi yon!” he defensively said. “Tao lang, nagkakamali rin ako... Pero alam ko na parehas lang naman talaga tayo, Kiera.”

She giggled at his reaction, his ears becoming crimson. She placed three boxes of Maya Hot Cake and Crinkles mixed on the cart that Justin was in charge of pushing, while she was in charge of putting everything on the list that his mother gave him.

“Excuse me, Justin, I learned how to cook when I was in LA kaya,” she stated, reading over the list again before turning her attention to Justin, who's already and still observing her movement as if it's the first time he's seen her.

“Magluto ng... pancit canton?”

They continued wandering down the aisles, where their grocery list would lead them.

“Filipino dishes talaga, Jah, plus… I'm currently working on my baking skills, which Kuya Stell will help me improve and will teach me more when he has free time…” she beamingly stated. “Uhm… share ko lang.”

“Bakit mo naman lulutuin yung mga dishes Kie? E 'yun nga gagamitin pang kain 'di ba? Tsaka hinuhugasan 'yon hindi niluluto,” he said it quite serious and thoughtfully, then laughed a little after a second.

Kiera's mouth hung slightly wide as she tried to grasp what he said, her brows furrowed. “Huh? Ano 'yon? Wait, nag-loading brain cells ko, Jah!”

“'Wag mo na lang intindihin, Kie,” Justin chuckled as he reached above Kiera's head for two packs of 12 pieces Chuckie Chocolate drinks.

She pointed at it. “Wala 'yan sa list!”

“Alam ko,” he muttered. “Favorite mo 'to 'di ba. Lagi mong iniinom nung college pa tayo. Batang Chuckie—hindi yung manika ha.”
