The rest of the weekend wasn't eventful, it just consisted mostly of me starting on a Macbeth paper due Wednesday. Dad came home with a large catch, and Bella fixed it up nicely for dinner. Sunday came and went, and then it was back to school.
Monday morning revealed more sunlight, which was nice. I liked the rain and all, but it was good to have some rays every once and a while. Bella seemed to be in a phenomenal mood, though I wasn't sure why. Maybe it was the sun. After all, she hated the rain.
In fact, she was in such a good mood that she rushed me out the door way earlier than usual and when we got to the school, discovered we were nearly the first ones there. I tried to question her on it, but she just shrugged and said, "It's sunny."
We found a spot at the picnic tables on the south side of the cafeteria, and when I spotted Mike approaching us I gladly made my way over to meet him in the middle.
"Hey, Y/n," he greeted, keeping his voice low so that I was the only one who could hear. "Do you mind if I speak to Bella alone for a little?"
I shot him a look, knowing where this was going. "Are you sure that would be the best idea, especially after she said no to going to the dance with you?"
"She couldn't go because she was going to be in Seattle."
"Right," I agreed reluctantly, then exhaled. "Yeah, okay. Good luck."
"See ya."
The first few classes passed in a blur, though it was a bit exciting that Jess invited me to go dress shopping in Port Angeles with some of the other girls. I thought it sounded fun, but I told her I'd have to talk to my dad first.
Lunch was. . . weird. Again, I'd been planning to observe the Cullens and Bella and try to decipher what was going on there, but the Cullens were absent from their usual table. Bella took this news hard, for some reason, drawing into herself once more. Angela invited her to come dress shopping tonight too, even though she wasn't going, and Bella agreed.
Edward wasn't in Bio, either.
The rest of the day passed normally, and Mike had stopped me once to let me know the situation with Bella. He said that she rejected him again, but he didn't seem too sad about it. In fact, he told me he was going to ask Jessica out, which I wholeheartedly supported.
That afternoon Jessica called to cancel our plans and reschedule them for the next night. Apparently Mike worked fast.
Bella retreated to the backyard to get some sun while she read, and I stayed inside working on the Trig homework I'd procrastinated on.
The next morning, it was sunny again, and I felt confident enough to leave my rain jacket at home. Once lunch hit, however, and Bella saw that the Cullens were absent once again, her mood fell despite the nice weather.
I didn't understand why their absence had such an influence on Bella. Sure, I knew that she might have been interested in Edward, but the whole family?
There was the issue of them being absent, however, and that was strange in and of itself. On the one hand I was happy to get my footstool back in Bio, but on the other hand the Cullens kept invading my mind, annoying enough. It would have been normal for maybe one kid to be out sick. The whole family, though? Not likely.
The Port Angeles scheme was back on again for tonight and made all the more attractive by the fact that Lauren had other obligations. After school, Jessica followed us home in her old white Mercury so that we could ditch our books and truck. I brushed through my hair quickly when I was inside, feeling a slight lift of excitement. I switched my scruffy wallet from my school bag to a purse I rarely used, and Bella and I ran out to join Jessica. We went to Angela's house next, and she was waiting for us. My excitement increased exponentially as we actually drove out of the town limits.
