A Mentor and a Disciple

A year has passed since the entrance exam which meant today was the day for the next entrance exam. I walked along with Asta, Noelle, Finral and Gordon following Captain Yami.

“I can’t wait to get new members in our squad!” Asta said excited.

“Mhm, we are going to be seniors! I can’t wait to order them around” Noelle spoke up while Finral nervously chuckled.

“Yea this is going to be fun” I mumbled, as we entered the stands.

We still had time till the exam started so Captain Yami allowed us to wander freely. Asta ran off for some reason and later we found him being attacked by anti-birds.

“That idiot…” Noelle muttered while I searched for Alecia. She was going to participate in the entrance exam to officially join the golden dawn. It wasn’t needed but she wanted to prove herself.

“Noelle…” A familiar voice called out for her. We turned to face Captain Nozel. I gave Noelle’s hand a squeeze before walking away, giving privacy to their sibling talk. But she held onto my hand, so I stayed put. If she wants me to be there with her, then I will.

“You actually came” He said to her.

‘What’s that supposed to mean?’

“Uh… well yea, I came with her and Asta. We thought it could encourage us for upcoming battle…” she said to him.

“Huh, so it’s already been a year” He mumbled to no one in particular.

“Brother Nozel, I first wondered why you put me in Black bulls but now I’m very grateful that you did. I found myself great friends and a wonderful family. So thank you”

He looked at her oddly for a few seconds before gently smiling “You’ve grown Noelle”

Noelle looked really happy as she smiled brightly. Then Captain Nozel focused his eyes on me.

“Reyana, I want to talk with you, privately”

“Oh, alright; Noelle, I’ll be right back”

“Yea, I’ll go and find that idiot Asta”

“So what is it Captain Nozel?”

“You fought well in the battle. I didn’t see your fighting but I heard from William”

“Oh, thank you Captain”

“But that’s not all? Can I trust you?”

“Huh? Trust me?”

“Trust you to protect my sister Noelle. The devil… may target her, I can’t say why but there’s a chance”

“Captain…”

“So promise me you’ll protect her”

“You know, these type of promises don’t end well”

“Don’t say that Reyana”

“Take my hand Captain Nozel”

He was confused but took my hand regardless.

“I, Reyana, swear the oath of Kitsune blessing upon Noelle Silva that my mana always keeps her strong and safe, even after my death”

Our hands glowed before the magic settled in.

“What… was that?” Captain Nozel asked shocked.

“An oath, a promise and a blessing; don’t worry, I’ll make sure Noelle is protected”
