"Ow! Crap!" She quickly grabbed her finger and dropped the knife.

"Oh Meril! Are you alright?" one of the cooks asked.

"What happened?" Lord Elrond asked, the footsteps she had heard approaching.

"Oh, I was just a little clumsy. I accidentally stabbed my finger while chopping vegetables. I'm okay," she said.

She took her hand off her index finger and the blood started to flow again, showing it was a deep cut. She put her hand back around it, and blushed, seeing Elrond give her a look.

Elrond looked around and found a clean rag that was sitting on a table, then ripped it, and walked over to her. She looked into his eyes and was lost a moment in them, then he held up the bit of rag and she removed her hand from her finger. He began to wrap it.

"I came here expecting to find you," he said. "Gandalf is here and is wondering where you are."

He looked up between talking to look into her bright blue eyes, then back down to her finger.

"Already? I just.. I wanted to help with the food."

Once he was done wrapping it, he tied it at the end and looked back into her eyes.

"You always cook when you're nerves are bothering you. It's going to be alright," Elrond said kindly with a smile to her, then put a hand on her shoulder.

He looked her over, not expecting her to wear a dress. Nolya always picked out clothes for Meril, but Meril would never wear the dresses.

"You're lucky you didn't get anything on your beautiful dress," he said softly.

"I-I know," she stammered, heart racing being so close to him.

"Shall we to Gandalf?" he asked and extended his arm so she would walk with him.

"Um, yeah. Let's go," she said and waited for him to go first.

He walked out of the kitchen with her following, then they walked next to each other as they went to were Gandalf was waiting.

"What has you so nervous, if you don't mind my asking?" Elrond asked.

"It's been ten years since I saw him. Since he rescued me. I never got to tell him thank you before I recovered. And I.." she got silent.

He looked over at her, wondering what was bothering her.

"I still can't remember a thing. I don't know why I was on Misty Mountain, or how I fell... Or how I even survived," she sullenly said.

"Don't blame yourself for not being able to remember, it will come in time."

"But it's been ten years Lord Elrond. What if it never does?" she looked into his eyes sadly.

Her pure black hair was layered with bangs and shaped her face perfectly. The curls from the humidity on the ends always fit her face so perfectly. It was mid-day, and her pale skin glistened almost in the sun.

He put his hand on her shoulder softly again

He put his hand on her shoulder softly again.

"It will," he reassured her. "Don't feel like you owe Gandalf an explanation. He has always been a kind wizard. He helps many."

He always knew just what to say to put her mind at ease. They walked to a meeting area and Gandalf was sitting at a table with some food in front of him. He stood and smiled.

"Welcome Gandalf!" Elrond greeted him happily.

He smiled and shook Elrond's hand, happy to see him again, then turned and saw Meril standing there.

"Hello, Gandalf," she said softly.

Once their gaze met, he had this sudden feeling... but it went away fast. He noticed it the first day he found her laying at the bottom of the mountain. Something odd about her, but he didn't know what.

"Meril! I'm glad to see you awake and in much better shape than I had brought you here in. How has your stay been?" Gandalf greeted her kindly and went in for a hug.

She hugged him back, feeling this odd familiarity with him. Almost like he was a father to her. Perhaps that's how all wizards felt like?

"It has been excellent. Lord Elrond has been too kind to me, and allowed me to stay here."

"Have you made any friends?" he asked.

Meril smiled. "Yes, my closest friend Nolya. She's so kind, and is basically like a sister to me."

"I'm happy to hear it!" he smiled, happy his new friend was doing good.

He could tell she was more than in pain from the wounds she got from the mountain. There was a darkness in her heart, a sorrow. He could still sense it there, but it diminished a lot since being here.

"Have you remembered anything since I brought you? Why you were up on that mountain?"

She lowered her gaze to the ground.

"No," she said sadly. "Not a thing. I get these... flashes? But I can't make out what they are or mean. I'm sorry."

"Don't be sorry, you hit your head pretty hard it looked on your fall. One day they will come back."

She sighs a little, sad that everyone keeps telling her the same thing. But she kept hope for it.

"I'm so glad I can finally tell you.. thank you so much. For saving me that day. I don't know what would have happened if you weren't passing by."

She looks into his eyes again, and the feeling comes back to his chest. Like there's a monster deep down inside, waiting to be set free. But quickly ask it comes, it goes. It was very confusing to him.

"Of course! Of course! I'm glad I could help!" he smiled and gave her another hug.

She got choked up a little and almost started to cry. She felt like people weren't very kind to her in her past. The past she doesn't remember. There are always these odd emotions coming up and she wished she knew what they were linked to.

"Please, you'll join us for lunch correct?" Gandalf asked Meril.
