Some might say that I'm in love with my best friend. And when I say some, I of course, mean our two other friends. Obviously, they're wrong. We're just close, and she's straight.
For some reason, they ship us together, relentlessly. And it gets tiring quickly, too. But, Charlie seems oblivious to it.
Just because we hang out almost every day, and make excuses to talk to each other, doesn't mean we like each other! So what if she's the only one I'm really myself around?
And there I go again;
overthinking my feelings at 1am.
I sigh as I roll over on my side.
We're just friends. I need to get over myself.
I try closing my eyes and using a breathing technique I learned when I was 10.
"Come on! Just try it!" Char had nagged.
We were having a sleepover and I wasn't able to sleep.
"Fine.." I grumbled, closing my eyes and trying the trick.
And just like that, a few minutes after the memory, I found myself drifting off to sleep.
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
I groaned as I swiped snooze on my alarm.
"Dad! Do I have to go to school today?"
Silence remained in the hallway outside of my room. He should be awake by now. It's 7:15.
Oh crap. It's 7:15!
I dragged myself out of bed as fast as my body would allow. I rushed to the kitchen, but it was dark and empty.
"Dad..?"
I walked over to the fridge to get some milk. There was a post-it note on the door. He doesn't usually have work before I go to school. What would've made anything different?
Lux,
Jacey wanted me to go out of town this week. There's food in the fridge for dinner, and you can get takeout if you'd like. I'll see you next Monday.
Dad
Of course. Jacey would make it different. Jacey is dad's supervisor. She's quite annoying if you ask me. Alessia and I have betted that they're going out. It's obvious, honestly. It's also obvious that she's only using him. Most likely for money.
Our parents have been divorced for around 3 years. Dad has full custody of me and my sister. However, our mom has full custody of our little brother, Leo.
Now that I think about it, I haven't seen Alessia either. Maybe she already left for school.. Wait... Of course she already left for school! It must be past 7:20 by now!
I put the milk back in the fridge and rushed into my room to get dressed. Once I put on a cream turtleneck, accented by a brown cardigan, along with pale mom jeans,I put on some natural looking makeup with some oranges and browns. Finally, after putting on some brown lipstick, I sprinted out the door.
The entire bus ride there, I swore I was going to be late. Thankfully, I wasn't. I had two minutes to get to class, but it was something. I sat down in my seat, nearly falling asleep throughout homeroom. If it weren't for the bell, I would've probably actually fallen asleep.
I dragged my feet to second period. My second period is Biology. Charlie has English for second period. I wish we could've switched schedules on the first day. However, she has woodshop for her elective. Let's just say that I'm not very good when it comes to machinery..
