''Rest now, Your Grace. I will bring the leeches.'' Mello said as Viserys lay back exhausted and weak.''If I may, Grand Maester, I took the liberty of preparing a fresh set of herbal poultices that might be more... effective.'' Maester Orwyle offered.
''That will not be necessary, Orwyle.'' Mellos assured ''The leechings have always brought His Grace relief." He assured as he headed out.
''To help him sleep.'' Orwyle offered the bottle popping the top to Lyonel.
''Where's the Queen?''
''I was given to understand that she is otherwise occupied, Your Grace.'' but the door opened and Lucia peered in.
"I'm sorry to interrupt." Lucia remarked. "I just heard you were back father."
"What a good daughter you have." Viserys remarked. His own daughter and wife didnt check on him since their return.
"I wanted to say goodnight... are you alright your grace?" Lucia questioned.
"I will be sweet girl." Viserys assured. Lyonel moved to Lucia kissing the top of her head.
"We will break fast in the morrow?" Lyonel requested giving her shoulder a squeeze. "You can catch me up on what you and Larys did while we were gone."
"I want to go sailing with you next time." Lucia whispered.
"I can do that." Lyonel agreed. "If its nice we will take the boat out." LUcia nodded before tipping her head to viserys and heading out. "Goodnight love."
"Night father." Lucia called back. "Goodnight your grace, I hope you are feeling better in the morning."
"Thank you, lady Lucia." viserys agreed he watched her go. "Such a lovely girl you have Lyonel."
"I'm quite proud of her." Lyonel agreed. "Light of my life."
"She doesnt drive you up a wall does she?" Viserys questioned.
"Never. Her... her leg. Shes only ever vocal when shes upset about her leg but otherwise shes perfection and even then when she speaks out, you cant blame her, or at least I never can." Lyonel agreed.
"Suitors in mind for her?" Viserys pondered and Lyonel's lips pursed. "Please Lyonel tell me something to keep my mind from my racing thoughts." Viserys begged.
"No your grace, she is still young and... I think I will see if Larys and Harwin have a match before I lose my baby girl."
"Understandable." Viserys agreed. "How lucky you are to have three children."
"You have three children your grace." Lyonel corrected and viserys huffed out a breath.
"I do, dont I." Viserys agreed.
"Might I be candid with you, your grace?" Lyonel pondered.
"Yes, please." Viserys agreed.
"You rushed into marriage because your council, because Otto wanted you to... but I don't think you love your bride." Lyonel offered carefully.
"I don't." Viserys agreed softly. "I did it because I thought it was necessary but... its just..." Viserys sighed heavily his shoulders sagging. "I thought that being king meant I could do what I pleased, but I'm just as much a slave to the council as a man in the black cells." Viserys remarked.
"Then break those chains." LYonel suggested. "Do something for you."
"I have to focus on this wedding, this blasted wedding." Viserys murmured. "Rhaenyra... the realms delight, the realms pain, my bane." Lyone chuckled. "I swear it that girl is the bane of my existence." Viserys informed him honestly. "Makes me wonder why I named her in the first place with how much she tries to undermine me."
"You love her, you forgive her, it might be foolish, it might be smart, it might be your ruin in the end." Lyonel offered and Viserys stared back at him silently for a moment and Lyonel knew he over stepped. But he wasnt reprimanded instead Viserys asked him for his opinion.
''Will I be remembered as a good king, Lyonel?'' Viserys said with a sigh.
''Your Grace?''
''What will they say of me when the histories are written? I have neither fought nor conquered, nor suffered any great defeat.'' Viserys remarked.
''Some might call that good fortune.'' Lyonel countered.
''It hardly makes a good song, does it? To be sung at feasts in a hundred years... five hundred.'' Viserys said pathetically.
''You have carried King Jaehaerys's legacy. And kept the realm strong.'' Lyonel corrected but his answer didn't satisfy Viserys. ''Is it not better to live in peace than to have songs sung after you are dead?''
'Perhaps. But there is a part of me wishes I'd been tested. I often think that in the crucible, I may have been forged a different man.''
'' Many that are tested, only wish to have been spared it.'' LYonel reminded him. "Lucia has been tested for years, a different kind of testing but still her leg taken from her, her life turned upside down."
"And she is the sweetest most loving girl in all the realms." Viserys declared.
"Thank you for saying that your grace." LYonel agreed. Viserys sighed looking at the tonic in his hand. "What is it your grace?" LYonel pondered.
''Another lord might assure me that I would rise like Aegon the Conqueror given the chance.'' Viserys remarked bitterly.
''Your Grace, that is... You're right. You're right... as always." Lyonel told him.
''It is perhaps best not to know.'' Viserys countered drinking the potion.
"Perhaps." Lyonel agreed.
