Someone is playing video games, a tone-deaf is singing in his living room, Big Mouth Mama Chan is gossiping with the other mamas outside, and some crazy guy is hitting spoon on a rice cooker like it's fucking New Year.

What a great way to start the morning.

I woke up earlier than usual to cook dumplings and fried rice. I only drink coffee for breakfast so why bother?

It's for Riko. I know I've been telling her a friend drops by to leave the premium meal boxes I've been giving her but I bought them all with my own money. Now that I don't even have enough to pay the rent, I'll just make her breakfast myself.

Screw the rent.

I washed my face, brushed my teeth, and immediately hurried to the door when I heard somebody knocking.

But life always finds a way of messing things up.

Specifically when what it brought outside my apartment door was not Riko holding out coffee but my father looking extremely pissed.

What did I do now?

All of a sudden, it turns into a trip down memory lane as I come flying at every corner of my apartment. Everything, everywhere, all at once.

Twenty horse kicks later, I lay weak on the dirty floor, spitting out blood, barely keeping my eyes open when:

1. I see a feminine silhouette at the apartment door.
2. The female silhouette starts to shout at my father.
3. My father charges at the female silhouette and slaps her in the face.
4. My father walks towards me again.
5. The female silhouette drops down and holds him back, keeping him in place - from reaching me - by grabbing his leg.
6. My father shakes her off and I hear her scream.
7. I recognize her voice.

Riko.

FUCKING HELL.

He's hurting Riko. I was kind of hoping it was Big Mouth Mama Chan just being nosy again.

But no, it had to be Riko.

I mouthed to her to hold him off a little longer and I saw her nod as I crawled towards my TV cabinet to take out the taser.

For the first time in my life, I finally did what I always thought of doing. I tased my father.

Hurray.

Albeit I did not do it indifferently as I would have liked. I was screaming my lungs out as I kept the device on his body for a few minutes.

Fortunately, the neighbors did not seem to give a fuck. No police reports were made.
