Ting brought flowers with her the day she left for Japan.

“Thank you for taking over, Riko,” She smiled and hugged me. “I’ll see you and Haoran in three months.”

“You have a good time there. Good luck with your crush!”

“Yeah, do your best.” Haoran added.

We waved her goodbye outside the store as she rode a taxi to the airport.

“I can't believe she's spending her savings for a guy.” Haoran stated in disbelief.

“She's spending her savings to enjoy herself. She deserves it.”

He looked at me and ruffled my hair. “I’m going back to the apartment to sleep.”

“Okay! See you later.”

“Hey, Rikonei Crolin!” Shufen shouted as he stormed inside the store with Shiyi, his childhood best friend. “Give us two hotdogs and iced lemonades.”

“You think this is a restaurant? Go get it yourself and pay at the counter,” I shouted back.

Upon Shiyi's glare, he obliged.

“Long time no see, Riko. We're here to cheer you up on your first day.”

“Thank you for taking the time to come here, Shi!”

“Hey, don't be a stranger.”

“But it's been such a long time, I can't help it,” I drew out the words as I said it.

“I know. I've been busy. College is hell.”

“Tell me about it,” Shufen muttered as he placed the hotdogs and drinks on the counter.

After I handed him the change, he dragged Shiyi away immediately. “That's HK$70 more on your cash register, Riko.”

“Xiexie ne!”

They both smiled and waved as they walked away hand in hand.

It's just an ordinary day.

But it's the best I've had so far.
