"Who are you?"
It took a moment for Marion to register that gravelly machine voice in his system.
"I-I…"
"Where is Robera?" The robox took a threatening step forward, making Marion flinch back a couple of steps.
He instinctively raised his hands to cover his face. His eyes squeezed shut. "Don't know. I don't know. Please."
Another hard press of metal boots and Marion could feel the cool barrel grazing the pulsing skin of his head.
Marion forgot to breathe.
His heart drummed louder. His lungs burned and his throat dried.
Death.
Freedom.
He had been waiting for this moment for so long. Then why did cold claws of dread was scratching the length of his spine? Was it fear? Maybe uncertainty?
Whatever it was, Marion wouldn't back down now. Not when he was this close to his destined fate.
With a shaky breath, Marion clenched his fists and gulped. Taking his last remaining sweet time, Marion forced his limbs to move lower. His hands pressed firmly against the sides of his thighs.
Another wobbly breath and Marion fluttered open his gray eyes to meet his death heads on.
I won't die a coward. No. Not after going through this hell.
It seemed for some reason, the robox could read the steely determination in Marion's eyes. Those beady red balls narrowed and barrels pressed against his skin further.
"Where is Robera, human?" his deep, machine voice grumbled even though the words were spoken in a neutral tone.
Marion sighed, forcing his eyes to remain firm on that lifeless red gaze.
"I don't know any Robera," When the robox didn't budge an inch, Marion sighed. "Look, just get this over with, okay? I'm here. I offended you with my stale breath and icky blood so go ahead. Shoot."
The robox watched him with the same unwavering intensity.
Marion clenched his jaw hard. "Come on. Shoot me!"
The robox didn't move.
Marion growled and grabbed the wide length of the barrel, hitting his head with it repeatedly. "Why are you not shooting? Your nuts broke? Kill me! Kill me, damn it—"
"You are here to retrieve an object."
Marion halted.
"You are not well-informed about your task."
He snapped his head up. "What?"
"Therefore, not aware of Robera."
His gray eyes narrowed, noticing the glazed look in the robox's beady red balls for the first time.
