The human world.
Breathe in. Breathe out.
Loona repeated this simple cycle for what seemed like hours in Lucas Wilkes' bloody kitchen. One hand rested by her side, while the other held the bleeding wound in her stomach.
Gritting her teeth, Loona gripped the knife's handle.
Come on Loona, Come on...
Loona began to pull the knife out. Suddenly, she screamed in pain at the feeling of the steel of the blade sliding through her insides.
"FUCK!" She screamed, trying to fight off the coming tears.
Tightening her grip on the knife, Loona used her free hand to grab a nearby kitchen towel, which she rolled up and put in her mouth to bite down on from the surely incoming agony.
Three...
Two...
Now!
Loona yanked the knife out of her gut. Screaming, she aggressively bit down on the towel. Had she been in her Hellhound form, her fangs would have cut through the fabric.
After she calmed down a bit, she threw the towel across the room and looked down at the wound.
That's a lot of blood...
Loona leaned over and began to rummage in the nearby cabinets. Finally, she found what she was looking for: plastic wrap.
Loona wrapped the plastic wrap around her stomach, calming the blood flow. She leaned her head back against the kitchen island and closed her eyes. She could feel her strength dwindling.
Was I too late? I lost so much blood...
Loona exhaled shakily. I'm gonna die...
Before she could stop herself, she was crying.
It wasn't a perfect life...
But I had...
I had...
Love.
I had Maxine.
The thought of Maxine sparked a memory within Loona's mind. Mere hours before, before Loona had stepped through the portal into the human world, Maxine had been there.
Before Loona left, Maxine hugged her. She kissed her. She told Loona that she loved her. And she made Loona promise something.
You promised...
You promised that you'd go back to her.
Loona raised a bloody hand and gripped the edge of the counter.
Get up.
Loona got to her knees, wincing at the pain.
Get up. For her.
It hurt like hell, but finally, Loona managed to make it to her feet.
I did it, Ma-
Loona's train of thought was interrupted by a baseball bat hitting her upside the head. Falling to the ground, her vision blurred and she heard three male voices.
"Jesus fuck! Did you kill her?"
"No, look. She's breathing."
"Holy shit, look at his face! Did she do that?"
"I don't know and I don't care. Just start looking around for his wallet, a safe, anything that looks like it might be worth something. Wait, come back a second. Look at her. Aside from all the blood, she's kinda hot, huh?"
"What the hell are you talking about?"
"Dude, are you serious?"
"You two, get her up on her knees."
"You're kidding, right?"
"Just do what I say!"
Loona felt two pairs of arms lift her up so she was on her knees. To each of her sides, an intruder held her in place. The third one stood directly before her. All three of them wore ski masks covering their faces.
Loona looked up and saw the third intruder undoing his pants.
"You've gotta be fucking kidding me," she said.
Loona sighed. Well, there was no avoiding it now.
Before their eyes, Loona turned into her hellhound form.
"What the-"
Without hesitating, Loona unleashed her fangs, leaned forward quickly, and bit down on the third intruder's crotch. Hard.
"WHAT THE FUCK!" she heard one of them scream.
Screaming, the third intruder stumbled backward, blood running down his legs. Loona spat out what used to be attached to his body.
Loona acted quickly. Grabbing the knife from earlier off of the ground, she turned to the intruder to her right and quickly slashed his through open. He fell backward, clutching at the blood escaping the wound. She then turned to the one to her left. She stabbed the knife straight into his throat. She then yanked the knife downward, opening a huge hole in his throat, causing blood to spew out like a geyser.
With the two men dying at her sides, Loona got to her feet and walked over to where the third intruder was lying on the floor, clutching where the blood was pouring from.
He looked up at her, terror in his eyes. "I'm sorry, please, I'm so-"
Loona raised her right foot and brought it down on his head. Under her boot, the intruder's head exploded in an eruption of brains, blood, and bone fragments.
Loona breathed heavily and stood still for a moment before heading to the living room and collapsing on a couch.
Loona reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone, surprised to see that she had a missed call from Maxine. Loona dialed Maxine and put the phone up to her ear, waiting.
Just when Loona was about to give up, Maxine finally picked up.
"Loona? Loona, are you okay?" the worry in Maxine's voice was apparent.
Loona exhaled. "The bastard stabbed me."
"WHAT?" Maxine shouted. "Are you okay? Is it still bleeding? Do you feel lightheaded?"
Loona couldn't help but smile at how caring Maxine was. "I'm okay. I was able to stop the bleeding."
Maxine calmed down. "Loona?"
"Yeah?"
Maxine's voice shook. "Jade's dead."
Loona's heart dropped for Maxine. "Oh baby, I'm so sorry."
Maxine sniffled. "She didn't deserve this."
"I know, hun. But think about this: if she went down to Hell, then you'll probably get to see her again."
Maxine's voice lifted. "Really??"
"Really. Did she do any unsavory things in life?"
Maxine thought for a moment. "She beat up a lot of kids in high school."
Loona laughed. "That should be bad enough."
Maxine laughed too, and it felt good. But then her voice took on a somber tone.
"I miss you, Loona."
"I miss you too, Max."
"Are you coming back soon?"
Loona looked into the kitchen and at Lucas' unconscious body.
"I've just got to tie up some loose ends."
