Maxine was woken up by a beam of sunlight striking her right in the eyes.

Maxine half-opened her eyes to see the light coming through a gap in her curtains. Grumbling, she turned over and gave herself five more minutes before getting ready for the day.

As Maxine performed her morning routine, the memories of the previous evening came back to her.

The date with Loona.

The car.

And, most vividly, the feeling of being in Loona's arms.

Maxine's heartbeat quickened as she remembered the feeling of being held by Loona.

Maxine couldn't remember a single time that she had felt safer. The feeling of Loona's arms encircling her waist and pulling Maxine close was intoxicating.

Maxine remembered the feeling of Loona's breaths on the top of her head. The warmth radiating off of Loona's body. The feeling of Loona's soft breasts pressing against Maxine's-

Maxine stopped herself as her thoughts of Loona quickly became ... less innocent.

But two thoughts continued to ricochet inside Maxine's brain.

Loona saved my life.

I want to see her again.

Without giving it a second thought, Maxine picked up her phone and sent a text message to Loona.

Do you wanna come over to my house this Friday? I'll make dinner.

———

Friday night.

Ding dong!

Loona stepped back after ringing the front bell of Maxine's house.

"Coming!" She heard Maxine call from inside. A few moments later, the door opened and Loona's heart skipped a beat as Maxine smiled at her. "Come in!"

Loona followed Maxine down the hallway and into the kitchen.

As Loona walked behind Maxine, she found herself examining Maxine's figure. From the back of her head to her neck, then her slim lower back, and then down to her-

Loona gulped and averted her eyes. Stay focused, Loona.

Once again, Loona was shocked at how nice Maxine's home was. It was nowhere near the mess that she lived in with Blitzo.

When she thought of her life in Hell, Loona frowned. She felt like she was lying to Maxine. She doesn't know what I am. Because of this disguise, she just thinks I'm a human like everyone else she knows. When she finds out what I really am, will she still want to be with me?

But as Maxine turned around and smiled at Loona, she felt all of her worries float away.

As they entered the kitchen, Maxine quickly made her way to the counter and continued the cooking that she had started before Loona came over. Soft pop music was quietly playing from a Bluetooth speaker on the counter.

"What are you making?" Loona asked her.

"Lemon rosemary chicken," Maxine replied over her shoulder with a hint of pride.

Loona paused. "That sounds... fancy."

Maxine panicked. "Is it too much??"

"No, no!" Loona reassured her. "I'm just not super used to fancy foods like that."

Maxine smiled. "Well, there's a first time for everything."

As Maxine continued preparing the food, Loona noticed a cookbook open. Loona peered at the book and saw the chicken recipe, but what interested her most was the section of the book that it was under.
