It's been three weeks since Fera found out about Felix's shift. They ended up picking up more supplies for Felix including lots of soft blankets and pillows for his nest, which initially took some explaining for Fera to understand, though Felix didn't exactly fully understand it himself, but he knew that he felt comfortable and safe in his nest.
Things had been going smoothly, and Felix and Fera had grown closer. They barely spent time apart, and because Fera worked from home they really didn't have a reason to separate.
Fera did schedule a vet appointment for Felix after finding out about his shift, just for a quick checkup. While they were at the vet Felix was registered as a new species so they could probably research it and take care of his health. The shelter that picked him up was also made aware about this new species, seeing as they were the ones who picked him up in the first place.

It was a regular evening for Fera and Felix. They were both lounging on the couch, with Felix curled up on Fera, when the phone started ringing. Fera set Felix down on the couch and got up to answer it, "Hello, this is Ferainar Arabiitryn speaking."
"Hello Mr. Arabiitryn this is Saving Grace shelter. We have records that you adopted a pet that is a species similar to humans, called a shifter, is that right?"
"...yes" Fera answered uncertain where this was going.
"Ok, that's good, we also received reports from the vet's office that his well-being and overall health has greatly improved since being under your care."
"I only want the best for him, and will continue to provide it for him." Fera had a proud tone while answering.
"We greatly appreciate that. Seeing as you have done such a great job taking care of a shifter we have a request for you."
"And what might that be?"
"Would you be willing to take on another shifter? We know this is a lot to ask, and it's a big commitment, but he's just in such bad shape, and you are the only registered owner of another of his species." The person on the other side of the line sounded desperate, and Fera decided he'd at least hear them out.
"This is a very difficult decision for me, can you give me more details?"
"Absolutely, feel free to ask any questions you may have. We picked him up on one of our rescue missions on planet Earth as the locals call it. We found him unconscious in an urban area, thinking he was just another human. While in transport he woke up and shifted into a large animal. He tried to escape but one of our guards on the ship managed to hit him with a tranquilizer. We took him to our on-site vet immediately and had him examined. The vet determined that he was malnourished and had multiple fractured ribs, but they were healing at an incredible accelerated rate. All that the shelter wants us to find suitable homes to take care of the unwanted and mistreated. Your home seems to be the best fit and we'll even pay for all medical bills until he is back to full health."
Fera considered what they said, and he knew he shouldn't say yes, seeing as this was a huge commitment, but he just couldn't leave a scared and malnourished pet like that when he knew he could possibly help it. "I will take him, but if he doesn't react well to my home or Felix after a month then I'd like the shelter to look for another option."
"That is perfectly understandable. Thank you so much for this. You can either pick him up when you are available or we can have someone bring him straight to your home. Which would be more convenient for you?"
"I would appreciate it if he was brought here." Fera didn't want to leave Felix or stress him out by taking him so this was the better option.
"Would tomorrow morning work?"
"That works for me" He'd have to discuss this with Felix, but when he looked over he realized he had already fallen asleep on the couch, so he decided it could wait till morning.
"Ok, and thank you again for taking him."
"It's the least I can do."
And with that they hung up, and Fera decided he was going to go to sleep early so he could have plenty of time to get ready in the morning. He picked Felix up and brought him to his nest, placing him gently inside. Then he slipped in his own bed and quickly fell asleep.
