Ominous echoes of the impending storm casted a haunting shadow over the kaleidoscopic blossoms of the bright spring days.
Fear was always in sight.
Fear was the dark presence that stood in the corner of their vision.
Fear was the entity that whispered imminent prophecies into the air of broad daylight.
Fear was the smell of bitter and sour.
Fear was the taste of metal and blood on the tips of their tongues.
Fear was the crackling sounds that could be heard with every step.
Fear was the relief of the calm before the storm.
Fear was everywhere and they knew they couldn't escape.

"We all know why everybody is here today," Lord Ubuyashiki said in a solemn yet smiling tone.
Following the hashiras' silence, he continued, "Uzui, with the help of Tanjiro, Inosuke, Zenitsu, and Nezuko, has defeated upper moon 6. This is an amazing feat, my children, one that hasn't occurred in many centuries." Many of the hashiras turned their heads and smiled at Tengen, who was flamboyantly taking in the attention.
"However, with such a high ranked demon now killed, the fight will now become more dangerous. My children, I urge you to stay cautious, Kyojuro's survival from upper 3 is evidence that we can reach the end. I know that this is the lifetime where we will get to see the obliteration of the demon-kind. I have my faith in you, my children, and so I wish you the best of luck during this period of time."
"What are you implying, Oyakata-sama?" Obanai said reluctantly.
"For all I know, the upper moons will now be as active as ever. Therefore, I want you all to prepare yourselves. We may see the most amounts of injuries this season, I want you to be alert, Shinobu," the head of the corps looked at her with serene eyes, "and for the rest of you, take care of yourself and rest, for we will never know when we truly need the energy you store in your strong bodies and courageous hearts."
...
~Was that some kind of warning to us all?~
Shinobu was walking back to her estate, perplexed about their current situation yet still alert of her surroundings.
Once arrived back home, it seemed that the estate had become eerily quiet once again. Despite the sheer brightness outside, the interior was dank and dim. It was all quiet except for the cicadas that hummed a steady rhythm.
Shinobu felt a pang of nostalgia.
Was the estate always like this?
Had it?
Perhaps it was only her own illusion.
She walked down the hallways and a rush of relief came over her as she could see the many patients sleeping peacefully in the multitude of rooms that were lined along the estate.
And there Aoi was, sitting by one of the injured people's bed and looking over their still bodies as if everything was fine.
But it was fine.
It was yet again, only a typical day for Shinobu in the demon slayer corps.
She had to remind herself that.
She left the girl to do what she did best and decided to get some rest in her room.
Kanao was probably doing rehabilitation training with Tanjiro and his friends whilst Sumi, Kiyo, and Naho were of course tending to the other dozens of patients around the Butterfly estate.
The creak of the doors to her room sent a shiver down Shinobu's spine. Did it always make that wretched noise?
Standing right in front of the door, Shinobu then walked over to sit down on her futon. Staring blankly at a tiny crack of a light that was creeping out the shaded windows, she had completely forgotten the reason as to why she had retreated to her room in the first place.
It was oddly quiet.
The room had become a reflection of that dark place in her mind.
What was she even thinking about?
Shinobu shook her head as if trying to shake away the unwanted thoughts.
She looked around her dim room once again, which was curiously toned down with deep red and orange shadows that cast a shaded hue over her whole surroundings.
Realising that her room was horribly bleak, she shook her head once again.
Then, the awareness of the darkness that she was sitting in, slowly crept up on her. She jumped up.
Shinobu, almost disgusted by the uncomfortable atmosphere she had suffocated herself in, immediately left her room again, darting back and forth along the halls trying to shake off the inevitable feeling of a darkness in the middle of spring.
It was always calm before the storm, whether it was grey or bright, they would never be able to escape it.
