The drive back to her car seemed like it took no time, or maybe it was just that Mia was so tired that she had a hard time keeping her eyes open. In fact, she dozed off, how long she slept Mia did not know, she just woke up in a car parked in a garage. She saw the door to the house open and got out of the car, but before she could take a step a dog came barreling at her, barking. Mia was a dog person, but she did not know if this one was friendly or not, so she stood still until it stopped in front of her. At that point Grant was in the doorway and he said, "Gunner, sit." The dog immediately plopped down but continued to eye Mia.
Mia asked, "Is Gunner friendly?" Grant laughed and said, "Yes and no. It all depends on how I label you to him, friend, foe, or fine. Friends are good and remembered, foes are bad and remembered, fine is good but not remembered." Mia nodded but before she could ask which he considered her, Grant said, "Gunner friend." and with that the dog walked over to Mia and nudged her hand so she would pet him. Mia petted him and asked, "Any chance I can use your bathroom before I walk to my car?" Grant nodded and motioned for her to follow him.
Once inside the house he pointed down a hallway and said, "Second door on the left. When you are done just tell Gunner kitchen and he will lead you to the kitchen." Mia nodded and walked to the bathroom followed closely by Gunner. When she was done, she washed her hands, and splashed water on her face trying to revive herself. Once she was out of the bathroom she said, "Gunner kitchen" and the dog turned and walked away, and Mia followed.
The kitchen was a large room, and the cabinets were a dark espresso color which looked wonderful against the blue grey walls. There were several shades of grey in the room along with pops of blue, which gave the room a sense of cheer. Grant was sitting next to the large island, and he had a couple of bottles of water in front of him and he motioned for her to sit down beside him. Mia tried to open the bottle but like everything else that day, it did not work. Grant took it and opened it for her and asked, "Are you sure you are OK to drive home? You can stay here I have several spare bedrooms, or you can call Angie and Tim I am sure they would not mind you crashing there."
Mia said, "To be honest I am very tired, but I don't want to bother you or the Pearsons, so I will just head home." Grant looked at her and said, "My fear is you will fall asleep at the wheel and hurt yourself or someone else." Right at that moment that was Mia's fear as well, but she didn't want to inconvenience anyone. Mia stood up, but when she did, she swayed on her feet and Grant said, "That settles it, you are staying here. Let me show you the guest room, there is a lock on the door and Gunner will sleep with you if it makes you feel better." Mia tried to refuse, but at that moment she was just so tired that she could not even form a clear sentence.
Walking back down the hallway from before Grant opened a bedroom that had a queen bed which only had the sheets on it, a dresser and nightstand and while the furniture looked expensive, there was nothing else in the room. Grant walked to the closet and pulled out a blanket and tossed it on the bed and said, "I can loan you a T-shirt, but it will most likely be like the one you are wearing just larger." Mia shook her head and said, "I am OK." Grant nodded then said, "Gunner, protect." pointing at Mia, which lead the dog to walk over to her side. Mia walked over to the bed, stripped off her shoes and slacks and then reached under her T-shirt and unhooked her bra and pulled it out of the bottom of the shirt, laid on the bed and closed her eyes.
Grant smiled and turned off the light and walked away. Mia knew the door was not locked, but for whatever reason she trusted Grant, and just before she fell asleep, she felt Gunner jump onto the bed and lay down next to her. By the time Grant was in his bedroom, Mia was asleep, and she slept hard, getting the much-needed rest she had missed this week.
Mia woke up with the sun in her eyes and when she tried to shift to avoid it, she bumped into the great wall of Gunner. She was petting him when both heard a whistle and Gunner jumped up and ran from the room. Mia laughed and grumbled about being dumped, but she knew she needed to start moving. She wanted a shower, but what was the point since she didn't have clean clothes. She was bending down to pick up her slacks when there was a knock on the door, looking up she saw Grant standing in the doorway with a stack of things in his hand.
