It was not much later when Gabe arrived and when he came into the room, he looked very tired. He walked over and sat down next to his mother and said, "I cannot believe the morning I have had. I think Tabitha's mother is deranged." Mia did not say a word, and he continued, "First she told me that she kicked you out when you were eighteen because you went wild with drugs, drinking and sex. Thad said that was a load of crap. She then said you ran away, and they had not known where you were for the last six years. Which I knew was a load of crap, because Tabitha and I saw you that day and Tabitha never said you ran away, and Tinsley said she had seen you working at a café." Grace patted his leg as he talked.
He continued and said, "Then she said, she had been ill and unable to care for herself and you refused to help. All three of these stories came out in about 30 minutes time. I asked Tabitha what happened, and she said you moved out at eighteen and never came back, but when I asked why you moved out, she just got all vague. The whole story does not add up and I don't even know what to believe anymore." He looked at Mia and asked, "Did you run away or just move out?" Mia shook her head and said, "I have told your family my side of the story, they can give you the details. But no matter what you hear from them, me or my family, you need to decide if whatever is said enough to keep you away from Tabitha. If it is not, then I suggest you don't ask questions about me, and I will make a point not to be around you and Tabitha." Having said that, she stood up and said, "I will leave you to have family time. I am going to go meet Jade and pull her off the ledge I am sure she climbed on while waiting for me to call her back."
Grant stood up and said, "I will go with you." Mia shook her head no and said, "I am good, I need to do some chores around my apartment anyway." Then looking at his parents, she said, "It was very nice meeting you and I hope to see you again soon." She then picked up her purse which she had put on the console table by the door earlier and left.
Mia called Jade from her car and asked her and Jasmine to come over to her apartment, and they agreed on a time. Once she was home, Mia started a load of laundry, made a grocery list, answered a couple of emails, just filling her time until the girls arrived. It was not long and there was a knock at the door and after checking the peep hole Mia let Jade and Jasmine in and they carried a cake box when they came through the door.
Jasmine carried it to the kitchen and said, "I am cutting everyone a big piece, we need the fortification to get through today." Mia and Jade both laughed but did not stop her, and soon she was back in the living room with three plates of cake. Mia asked if they wanted some water or coffee and both requested waters. When Mia returned Jade started her questions, she was popping them out a mile a minute, and Mia answered any of them she could. After Jade stopped asking questions, Mia told them about the call from Mr. Mitchell and about the conversation with Gabe. All three women were talked out by the time they were done, well Mia and Jasmine were, but Jade is never done talking.
They were just sitting and absorbing everything when Mia's phone rang and the number that appeared was not a number she recognized, so she let it go to voicemail. When the phone dinged that she had a voicemail she decided to listen to it. It was her mother screaming at her not to ruin Tabitha's chances with Gabe and then ranting and raving about how horrible a person Mia was. She hung up the phone, but Jade and Jasmine had heard it because her mother had been screaming so loudly. Jade grabbed the phone and started typing something and Mia asked what she was doing, but Jade just replied, "Nothing." When she handed the phone back Mia saw she had forwarded the voicemail to Mr. Mitchell and Grant saying, "This is Jade, and Mia just received this message. We need to stop this ridiculous woman."
Mia's phone immediately rang, and she saw it was Grant calling, and when she said hello, he immediately asked, "Are you OK?" And Mia responded, "I am fine. I am sorry Jade sent that to you. She did it without me knowing." Grant said, "I want you to forward me any messages she leaves you. Promise me." Mia started trying to refuse and he said, "Touch your collar and tell me you will send me all messages." Mia touched her collar and realized she did trust Grant, so she agreed. Grant asked, "Does she know where you live?" Mia thought for a moment and said, "I have never told her, but with the internet I am sure if she looked, she would find it pretty easily."
