Sweet day

The next morning, when I arrived at the base, I met Iceman in the corridor and my immediate reaction was to freeze. I was tiny compared to him.

"And, dove? Your dove is mad at me. He doesn't want to talk except officially about the jet." he said leaning his shoulder against the wall next to Viper's office.

"Iceman, I don't want any trouble. Especially since I need this job." I started stuttering and was on the verge of tears.

"Hey. You can call me Tom. Tom Kazansky. You don't have to be afraid of me and I came to apologize for interrupting you. I couldn't have known he would freak out over that."

"It's okay. I'll tell him you apologized." I said and smiled.
He nodded at me with a smile and went towards the classroom. It's actually not that scary. He just has that approach that makes you afraid of him. I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes a general or admiral in 15 years. Surprisingly, it would suit him. I stopped before entering the office when I saw Slider walking towards the classroom. I waved him to come to me.

"Hey. Everything okay?" he asked.

"It's okay. Iceman apologized to me for interrupting us and he's desperate because you're not talking to him. Fix it. Will you?" I said as I played with the zipper of his flight suit.

"Anything for you, Cinderella." he said with a smile and a wink. My cheeks betrayed me by how much they were blushing. I entered Viper's office and sat on a chair as if someone had knocked me over. I had to start working to get rid of my thoughts. Viper was satisfied with my work, and I began to love my work. Although the desire to sing was there. I was folding papers while humming a tune until I started singing my favorite song 'Waiting for a girl like you' by Foreigner.

"Wow. I don't need a radio with a voice like that. You sound great." Viper said and placed his cap on the table.

"Sorry. I got a little carried away."

"You're talented. Don't be ashamed. Charlie, you didn't tell me your sister has the voice of an angel." he said when my sister entered his office.

"Do you believe me that because of her I don't know the last time I turned on the radio at home?" she said proudly. They were discussing the pilots and I looked up when I heard that Iceman and Slider were aiming for the top and were taking turns on the same with Maverick and Goose. Viper told us that we were done and that we could go home.

"What do you want to do?" she asked me before opening the car door.

"Let's go to lunch somewhere, the two of us. We haven't gone out for a long time." I told her, to which she replied that she knew a small restaurant nearby. We entered the restaurant and Carole was sitting in the corner with Bradley and her husband Goose. Maverick was also with them. Bradley recognized me immediately and ran towards me. I picked him up and asked how he was.

"I'm very happy. Dad and Mav are having lunch with me. Have you had lunch?" he asked me with childish sincerity and curiosity.

"My big sister just brought me to lunch. You finish your lunch and I finish mine and if your parents agree, we'll go for ice cream afterwards." I told him and looked at his parents, who nodded their heads affirmatively. It didn't take long for him to return to the table and rush to eat. Lotti found a table for us and ordered fried chicken with fries and orange juice for each of us. The food arrived at our table and I saw Iceman and Slider enter the restaurant in their white uniforms. I felt a wave of heat all over my body and I had to try hard not to giggle like a teenage girl. Lotti noticed and gave me a smirk. I turned to see Bradley but Iceman caught my eye and winked at me. Slider shot him a look.

"Hey Valentine. Bradley fell asleep so we'll postpone the ice cream for another time. Thank you for the offer because he ate his entire lunch and didn't stop teasing Maverick about how you're going to buy him ice cream and he won't." Goose approached me. I told him to kiss him for me and see you the next day. I couldn't help but laugh because the boy is so cute. Lottie got up and went out to talk to Maverick, leaving me alone at the table. Slider magically appeared next to me and put his hand on the back of the chair as if he wanted to inform the others not to touch me.

"Valentine, do you want dessert? I'm buying it. Whatever you want." he said with his big smile behind his glasses.

"Hmm. I'm not sure. And you?" I said and leaned her on my arm.

"I'm taking you to a place. I'll tell Charlie you're with me." he said and called the waitress to pay the bill for me and Lotti's lunch to Iceman. He gave me a hand to stand up and patted Iceman on the chest as he passed. Just as we left, Iceman got the lunch bill and gave Slider an angry 'what the hell?' look. We met Charlie as he called her and told her that he was taking me to a place and that he would look after me.

"Slider, if she comes home and I see she's not well, there's no jet you're going to run away from me with. Clear?" she growled softly at him.

"Yes, ma'am."

We got into his white 1981 Range Rover and I was instantly hooked.

"Where are you taking me?" I asked.

"You'll have to bear with me a little longer. I won't hurt you."

I smiled and looked out the window as we moved away from the vicinity of the base. We stopped in front of a beautiful pastry shop in town. It exuded a touch of Paris and the wonderful smell simply beckoned inside. He opened the car door for me and put my palm under his arm and led me into the pastry shop. We sat down at a small table by the window. The waitress immediately came and asked if we knew what we were going to order.

"Two cheesecakes and one chocolate cake. And two coffees with milk, please." he ordered without taking his eyes off me.

"How do you know about this place? Have you been bringing other girls here?" I asked him provocatively.

"You're the first one I brought here, and normally I'd bring my mom and sister here when they came to visit me."

"Oh. Sorry. I didn't mean to be rude."

"Everything is fine. Tell me about yourself. Is it true that you sang this morning?" he asked curiously.

"Yes, it's true. I like to sing and I'd like to be a singer. My sister Lotti found me this job so I could try and not waste my time. I'm grateful to her for that. And you? You haven't told me your name yet."

"Oh, now you want to know my name." he said and the waitress brought us our order.

"Ron, take care of her. She could be your wife in two months." said the waitress, placing the coffee in front of me and winking at me. She left and I could only look at Slider in wonder.

"Ron?" I asked.

"Thank her. Yes, my name is Ron. Ron Kerner." he said and held out his hand to me.

"Valentine Blackwood. Pleased to meet you, sir."

He rolled his eyes with a smile and grabbed a bite of the cake. I also took a bite of the cake and just melted. I almost wanted to moan with pleasure. I have never tasted a better cheesecake. We talked about flying and finished the cheesecake. Ron placed the chocolate cake in the middle of the coffee table and told me to taste it. Again the same pleasure and euphoria. I loved chocolate.

"I could look at you for days. You're beautiful." he told me and smiled as we shared the cake. I laughed so hard my cheeks hurt. I was ashamed and lowered my head because I'm not used to compliments. To the attention of this guy and that I am something important to someone. He lifted my chin with his finger.

"Don't lower your head. The queen bows to no one." he told me.
My eyes watered and I wanted to jump into his arms.

"No one has ever held me like this. Thank you."

"You deserve it. Give me a chance to show you that every day can be like this." he said confidently and pushed the rest of the cake towards me. He was drinking coffee while watching me enjoy the chocolate. I also drank coffee and he paid the bill.

"I'm embarrassed how you got Iceman to pay for my lunch and now you paid for this." I said and rubbed my forearm.

"He deserved it. And I would spend all the money in the world on you and not regret it."

He opened the car door for me and told me to remind him of my address.
He stopped in front of the house and looked at me. I leaned down and kissed his cheek.

"Good night, Slider."

"Good night, Cinderella."
