Alana's POV
"In 1/4 mile, make a right on Hinton Street."
My GPS directed me to the condo Alycia had just recently moved into. I did as it said, and made a right. It took me down a street lined with lush trees and empty sidewalks. I ducked my head to look at the numbers next to each door.
"You have arrived." It sounded once more. Once I spotted 218, I pulled up in the empty spot next to Alycia's silver Nissan. I took one quick glance at myself in my rear view mirror before I got out. My eyes were all red still from the previous events, so I tried my best to cover it by quickly swiping some concealer under them. I got out and knocked on the door, and Alycia's footsteps came pounding down the stairs. She opened the door and embraced me in a meaningful hug, that I really needed. I held my sister once more in my arms and then we went in to fill her in on what had happened.---------------
"So......you do like him!?" Her eyes got wide and she gave me a knowing look. She looked at me just waiting for a reply.
"I guess I always have, I just convinced myself that I didn't." And that was the truth. I refused to ever have any feelings towards Myles because of how close we were. I didn't want it to be because of me that our friendship was ruined.I looked at my sister. She was staring at the floor, trying to find something to say to me.
" I don't think it was wrong that you kissed him. I just think you have bad timing." She said it gently and hesitant as if I was going to blow up on her for saying it. But she was right, I have horrible timing. Myles needed me to comfort him, not add to his stress, which is exactly what I did.
"And he was completely normal this morning?" She was slowly wrapping her mind around the situation at hand.
"Yeah, like it never even happened." I explained to Alycia.
"Maybe you should just give him his space. I'm sure he'll come around when he's ready to talk." She looked me in my eyes to see if I agreed.
"I think that's the best I can do for now." I half smiled at her.
-----------
After I thanked my sister for her always-so-helpful advice, I went to the store to pick up some groceries for the next few days.
I pulled into the busy parking lot of the local grocery store, and parks in the closest spot. I entered the store and took a shopping cart for my convenience.
I strolled up and down the aisles, grabbing necessary items and a few snacks here and there. When I was finished, I headed to the checkout line.
"Alana?" I heard a slightly familiar voice call my name as I was placing the items on the electrical belt. I turned to see who it was.
"Hi." I was shocked to be face to face with Kalin, my ex of 3 years. I scratched the back of my neck awkwardly.
"Uh..how, um, how are you?" Kalin said nervously, shoving his hands into his jeans pockets. He was significantly talker than me. I was 5'3, while Kalin was around 6'2, so he looked down on me.
"I'm good. Uh, how are you? I thought you were living in LA." I turned always from him and continued placing my items on the belt to be scanned, not wanting to hold up the line.
"I am. I'm just here visiting for the summer, like I always do." He stared at his shoes, not knowing what to say. He didn't need to say anything because he was cut off by the cashier getting my total and me paying my bill. He helped me carry my bags to my car.
"Seriously Kalin, how have you been? It's been what? Almost a year and a half?" I asked after we loaded the groceries into my trunk. I hadn't talked to him since we broke up around the same time Myles and Kayla called it quits.
"Well, now that I have your attention," he paused to laugh a little, "I wanted to ask if you would join me for lunch tomorrow?" He asked hesitantly. "You know, so we could catch up." He looked at me for an answer.
"Um, yeah sounds great." I thought if there was anything I needed to take care of tomorrow. He handed me his phone to put my number in. I did the same with my phone, creating a new contact.
"I guess I'll text you then?" I suggested.
"Yeah sure." He replied walking away towards his car. I watched as he got in a and sped out the lot. I sat in my car for at least 5 minutes thinking about what just happened.
