Karolina sat up. "Howard, no."

He looked at her. "What I- " Karolina shook her head. "There is no way you are making that car fly again."

"She's right. You didn't even make it fly properly the first time at the fair." Peggy said with one of her hands resting on her hips as she leaned back on the table Karolina was on.

"Oh, pfft." He waved his hand dismissing them and turned back around to look at his gatherings of data he had across boards and tables. Although Karolina wasn't done with the teasing just yet, "Radio me when you make a robot." She chuckled and looked over at Peggy with a smirk.

"Make that two." She touched Karolina's shoulder before standing up straight, she walked over to their table they set up to work at. Karolina still had one more month until she would start serving, so she had more hands-on work given to her by the Colonel in the meantime.

They talked about plans after work while taking inventory and setting up plans. "And you and Steve? How is that going?" Karolina asked, peering up at her from her clipboard with that smirk still not going away. Karolina saw Peggy's cheeks turn a light shade of pink at the mention.

"I have no idea what you are talking about." Peggy looked away as Karolina nodded "Okay." She looked back down at her clipboard. A few minutes passed before Karolina started chuckling. "Oh shut it, we've got work to do." She looked back over at Karolina with a small smile creeping up on her face. "Oh indeed, if you and Steve don't kiss soon, there is- " Peggy threw her a glare before walking away. "Oh! You meant this work?" She pointed around, "My bad." She lifts her shoulders into a shrug and an innocent smile.

It had now been a little over 3 years of them all knowing each other, Howard, Peggy, and Karolina. They all started together and that's how it's been to this day. Always talking, laughing, or meaningless bickering that always ended with them having the widest smiles plastered on their faces. They all meant so much to each other.

Karolina was so glad to have them by her side. She was always incredibly fortunate to have them. But as for the next three years... she had been wanting to help Bucky and Steve fight the war now that they were letting women enroll and fight. Herself being among the first. Peggy and Howard always supported her yet warned her that if she didn't come back, they would kill her. Lot of good that will do. Yet she always shook her head with a smile and let them have their say.

Later that night, they all danced and drank their worries away. Well, kind of, as Steve and Karolina... only had one.

As a slow song started, Peggy walked through the bar with a lovely red dress. It was a slim chance she would show up due to all the work that was put on her last minute but that didn't stop her. Karolina saw her from across the place and made her way through the crowd. She caught some of the conversation between her and the guys. "What are we waiting for?" Bucky stood up with his chin held slightly higher. "The right partner." That was all she managed to hear before she turned around to clap for the band who finished another song. The next time she turned her head was to see Peggy walk out and leave every man in shambles who laid eyes on her, knowing they could never have her. She smiled knowingly as she stood next to the guys. She'd gotten closer with them over the past few weeks and this was their usual spot.

She sat down with Bucky as Steve got some more drinks for his crew who he was asking to go back into HYDRA headquarters. She watched from afar before pulling her attention to the guy next to her, "Hey buckaroo." She watched him down another drink with a raised eyebrow. "Yes, car?" She scoffed, "Haha." She looked over at him with a straight face before they both fell into a pit of laughter. She got the rest of his drink and got up. "Come on."

Bucky stared up at her with a look that said 'seriously' as she tilted her head to the side before rolling her eyes and pulled him up. "Just for tonight?" Bucky soon nodded and held her hands, walking towards the center of the room.

They slow danced for the rest of the night, Karolina's head on Bucky's shoulder. "Happy Birthday." She lifted her head to look him in the eyes, of course he remembered. "Thanks, Buck." she smiled softly with emotion filling her eyes. He melted, and with a small shrug, he replied, "Of course 'lina." Over the past few weeks ever since she got back from her mission with Peggy and Howard, after she had caught up with Steve, he had introduced her to Bucky. When Steve came back and rescued all the men from the campground Bucky and Karolina got really close. They both agreed they'd never really met anyone they felt so connected to before.

Once she put her head back down on his shoulder, she had a soft smile that couldn't be wiped off for the rest of the night. She didn't love her birthday and only told him when he asked. She trusted him more than anything. "How old are you now? Like a hundred?" He teased. "Very funny buck, but based on your jokes, you might as well be."

"Hey!" Karolina let out a small laugh and shook in his arms from laughter. Bucky shook his head with a smile and leaned his head on hers, pulling her closer as the night faded away.

Before they knew it, they all went home. Kar (pronounced kind of like Kara without the extra a, not car lmao) lived with Peggy due to her old living situation a couple of years back, Peggy was kind enough to have helped her out.

As the night welcomed them, Kar went to make sure Peggy got into bed safely as she saw her open her eyes a little to see Kar. "I got a date." Karolina smiled and kissed her hand. "Go to bed." She whispered and saw as Peggy drifted into her sleep with a drowsy smile. Karolina shook her head with a chuckle and went into her own room.

She laid down and looked up at the ceiling. Her life up until now seemed to have flashed behind her eyes as she reflected.

Born in Russia, abandoned at 6 months old and ended up getting raised by a family who owned a whole bunch of factories. She worked there for a few years as soon as she was able to and soon got discovered by an agency she didn't quite remember the name of. It was a very rare incident, and she to this day, couldn't figure out why they chose her. All she knows is that they are the reason she's lived within the army and labs all her life.

She had schooling once in the States by generals who had the extra time. She went on to become one of the army's best scientists despite being a woman. She worked with Stark majority of the time, them being the closest of friends over the years. She had no parents, a bunk bed in one of the old storage houses outside in the army's camps up until a few years ago when she met Peggy.

Now, she had best friends she trusted with her whole life. It couldn't get better than this.

But it could get a lot worse.

Once Steve had gotten injected, it had indeed changed everything.
