CHAPTER 4

Laura was too weak to lift a muscle. The only thing she could feel was Enzo carrying her motionless body.
Enzo made a stop at a Motel. He booked a room for two.

The Motel was one of Enzo's hideout. He usually stayed there when he needed to go off grid and he kept this secret location to himself only , not even Mr Friday knew about it.

There was a dresser, nightstand and a chair. The room was clean and welcoming. It had some personal touches like pictures of flowers hanging on the wall.

He laid Laura's body slowly into the bed. He drew out a first aid kit from a drawer and began to nurse her wounds.

- THE NEXT MORNING -

Laura woke up with bandages all over her chest and there was a bowl of water which was used to cleanse her wounds.
She smelled it. Used a few hours ago by Enzo. The water was dirty with blood. Her blood.

Laura could feel the comfort of the bed , it was soft and it made it easier for her to rest. But there was footsteps approaching the room.

He had a different smell but he was familiar . Laura knew it was Enzo. He entered the room and examined Laura.

Laura's eyes were barely open under the blindfold but she could sense Enzo was glad she was awake.

He placed a bag of groceries on the kitchen counter.
Enzo sat beside Laura.

"How you doing ?" He asked holding her hand .

"Better than before I guess" Laura replied.

She lifted herself up from bed and sat down properly, close to Enzo still holding his hand.

She let out a low groan.

"Okay , now you gotta tell me everything that happened . Can you remember? " Enzo enquired .

"It's all a bit foggy in my mind but all I can remember is , my father sent me on a mission to eliminate Mr Paine ; May his soul rest in peace , over the murder of my mother. I uh ... got into a fight with his men and I started losing my shit in the middle of the brawl. A sudden dizzy feeling struck me but I assumed it must have been caused from my wound since I was losing blood. Afterwards I woke up in a chair , staring at Mr Paine and after a short conversation, he tells me he had nothing to do with my mom's murder" Laura narrated slowly as she placed her hand on her head.

Her voice was flat but she managed to get the words out.

"And you believed him ?" Enzo asked looking surprised.

"Yeah, apparently he was telling the truth" Laura assured him.

"I just don't understand why my father would send me to kill an innocent man, unless -".

"There's something I gotta tell you , something about your father " Enzo interjected Laura's words.

There was a short awkward silence between the two.

The only sound that could be heard in the room was the sound of their breaths.

"Well, go on with it " Laura said desperately

" Your father has been lying to you all these years , your mom was not murdered by killers , she died by your father's hand". Enzo narrated.

Laura couldn't believe her ears. She was mesmerised by the bomb Enzo had just dropped on her.
She listened to Enzo's heartbeat and it was steady. Meaning he was telling the truth.

She grew furious by the minute but she had to listen to the whole tale.

"I'm really sorry for keeping this from you this whole time and I'm sorry you had to hear it from me" Enzo apologised meekly.
