CHAPTER 6

- LATER THAT NIGHT-

They quickened their pace as the clouds began to gather in the sky. They both looked exhausted.
Their clothes were drenched with water. They couldn't afford to make a stop.

Every minute that passed by couldn't be wasted. The clouds darkened into gravel grey. Large pillows of clouds were forming.

They got the first splatter of rain when they were halfway to Enzo's friend's house.
Droplets of moisture began to drop from the sky.

The rainfall became Intense in no time. So much rain was falling that the sound blurred into long whirring noise.

"Ring ring."

Enzo pressed the doorbell on the wall of his friend's apartment. They both stood in silence waiting for a response.

The sounds of locks being tuned over emanated behind the door.
The door swung back slowly revealing a young man in his late 30's standing in the doorway.
His dreadlock hair was covered in crisps of chips.

He was in a blue pyjamas and socks. In his right hand was a bowl of pop corn.

"Man, you look like shit ." Enzo teased the moment he set eyes on the fellow.

"Enzo! Buddy! How you been , it's been a minute " the man laughed as he approached Enzo with a hug.

Enzo embraced him tightly patting his hands on his back.

" I been better Fred, you; I can't say same " Enzo replied with a snorted laughter.

They pulled away from the hug momentarily.

"Sorry for coming on a short notice but I need a favour." Enzo said.

"Anything for you old friend ." Fred replied stuffing some popcorn in his mouth.

The sound of his teeth crunching on the popcorn made Laura almost laugh.

"So what can I do you for?" Fred asked still munching on his popcorn.

"We need some ammo and mind if we borrow your car ?" Enzo requested.

"And oh my bad , this is my friend ; Laura," Enzo introduced pulling Laura gently close to him.

"Ou, look what the cat dragged in , she's beautiful as the sunlight." Fred admired almost dropping his bowl of popcorn.

"How bout you take off the blindfold so I see the entire masterpiece of your exquisite face." He continued in admiration.

"Uh , no I wouldn't want that " Laura teased shyly.

Enzo gave Fred a sign not to push it and he dropped it.

"Right right "

"Nice to meet you Laura."

Fred and Laura exchanged handshakes.

Fred invited the two in. They made their way to the living room.

Enzo requested if Fred could show Laura the bathroom so she could freshen up.

"First door on your right, upstairs you can't miss it " Fred instructed her

"And there are a few ladies clothes in the guestroom, you can change into any of them once you're done , courtesy of my ex girlfriend" he continued.

Laura simply nodded and wondering why he had to emphasize on the owner of said clothes.

He placed his bowl of popcorn on the square table in the middle of the living room.
