The following day at school, we were just finishing with our usual assembly routine just waiting for the announcement. Mr Bayo our principal got on the podium to give the announcement.

"Good morning students," Mr Bayo greeted us with the biggest smile I'm sure anyone of us have ever seen in his face.

"Good morning sir," we chorused back.

"He must be so happy about this announcement," I murmured rolling my eyes.

"This one he's shining his teeth so, I'm sure it's about the scholarship," Vivian whispered. She standing right beside me.

"Alright students, as some of you may have already have heard based on the information going around this school, which is about our school participating in a competition that may lead to one of our own getting a scholarship, you all probably wondering how legitimate this information is. Am I right'? Mr Bayo asked.

"Yes sir," we chorused again.

"Okay the information is very correct. what you don't know is that this event is sponsored by the ILJ scholarship foundation, they be picking schools between average and low grade at random over Nigeria for this scholarship over 10 years now, and this time we happen to be one of the ten schools select this year," Mr Bayo announced while everyone in the assembly hall cheer including our teachers.

"The scholarship is for three different classes or grades that is three students are going to be given this scholarship.each of this student will be chosen based on their performance in the competition and exam, that comes top of the following class of SS1, SS2, and SS3 respectively. Now for the big news, this scholarship will allow the winner to attend and finish their secondary school education in one of the elite school in the country. Well this school is no other than Bright spring academy. Mr Bayo continued.

We all started to murmur, bright spring wasn't just any elite school but one of the top elite school in Ikeja it has both day and boarding students.

"Settle down, decorum, I'm not finished yet," Mr Bayo scolded. "As I was saying, bright spring is one of the best and well known secondary school in Nigeria and will surely open door for any students who finish from there, having the name of that school in your certificate is an advantage on it own and even the student would be having the opportunity to develop mentally on how to deal and work with or along side people of that environment. On top of that the students may also have the opportunity to join the school's college/university scholarship program as long as they keep their grades on or about the required grade for the program. He paused to look at us then continue. "So we are gonna select our best student from the required class, so not wanting to be seen as unfair I going to let anyone who is interested apply for the selection and participate in our own debate and exam. Only the top student of each classes will join the scholarship event," Mr Bayo finish.

Some students were cheering, other were already making plans, some were looking doubtful while some were deep in thought. Vivian was talking nor stop about how we must apply, even though there is a big chance i may not get it because according to her she just applying for fun as she is an average student making me smile.

"If you have any questions drop it with your class teachers, we shall address them tomorrow. Let's finish this assembly your first period is about to start, you have the whole of today and tomorrow to apply as the event for the selection is next Monday," Mr Bayo announced walking down the podium.
