Splashflight got into a crouch, coming closer to the unsuspecting mouse. At the last second, the breeze changed directions, and the mouse immediately scuttled off into the distance.

"No! Get back here you fox-dung!" Splashflight gave chase, sending snow everywhere. But she wasn't a WindClan cat, so the mouse escaped with minutes to spare.

"Splashflight! You just scared all the prey from here to the horseplace!"

Splashflight lowered her head in shame and embarrassment.

"Sorry, Redwhisker."

Redwhisker shook his head.

"Seabreeze and Fluffheart haven't caught anything either. If we don't catch prey soon, RiverClan will starve."

Splashflight sighed sadly. She couldn't even eat breakfast this morning because the kits and elders had to eat first.

The nearby bushes rustled and Seabreeze and Fluffheart came out with a mouse each in their jaws.

"That's it?" Redwhisker meowed in disbelief.

They both nodded. Splashflight felt dismay chill through her spine. If this kept on, warriors would starve.

...

Cats stared in shock as the hunting patrol entered the camp. Pity ran through Splashflight when she saw Duskclaw, Fishpelt, and Toothjaw crouched desperately beside the fresh-kill pile, waiting for the hunting patrol. Their mouths watered as Seabreeze and Fluffheart came closer with the mice hanging from their jaws. Hunger gleamed in each of their eyes.

As soon as the two mice were dropped, all three warriors dived in and started fighting with claws unsheathed over who gets the food.

"It's mine!" Duskclaw snarled as he dangled a mouse out of reach. Fishpelt tried desperately to reach it. Toothjaw had the other mouse in his jaws. They all had claw marks on their pelts.

"What's going on here!? A meal fight? I thought warriors knew better than apprentices!" Waterstar's voice boomed from across the clearing.

Waterstar marched right over to them and snatched the mouse right out of Duskclaw's claws.

"This piece of prey is not 'yours'. Does it have your name on it?" Waterstar demanded.

"No, Waterstar. I was just hungry-"

Waterstar hissed in the middle of Duskclaw's mew.

"Oh yeah, tell me something I don't know. You're not the only one that's hungry around here. Also, Fishpelt has been a warrior way longer than you. He's a senior warrior for StarClan's sake! Can't you show a little respect to your elders? Fishpelt deserves this mouse more than you do. And now, go to the warriors den to think about how disrespectful you were."

Duskclaw sat there, stunned. Then he gave a little hiss and stalked to the warriors den.

Toothjaw was about to bite into his own mouse when Waterstar stopped him.

"You think you can get away with that? You can go to the warriors den too. And also, give this mouse to Seabreeze. Senior warriors deserve some respect."

Toothjaw dipped his head and patted towards Seabreeze.

"At least he didn't argue," Waterstar muttered to himself.

To Splashflight's surprise, he turned towards Fluffheart.

"Can you tell Duskclaw that I have the power to make him an apprentice again? I'm sure that will make him listen." Waterstar ordered with a hint of humor in his voice.

Fluffheart nodded eagerly and bounded toward the warriors den.

A few minutes later a enraged yowl filled the camp, followed with muffled snarls. Fluffheart came out a moment later, his fur bristling.

"No one better go in there. Duskclaw is officially broken." He warned.

Everyone let out purrs of amusement. Until another yowl filled the air. And it wasn't Duskclaw.
